Due to the increasingly severe environmental and energy challenges in China,resource conservation and environmental protection have become one of our basic state policies.To accelerate and promote the development of green buildings and green urban area is crucial for China to proceed with its new urbanization and transform the building industry and the urban and rural development mode.In this sense,it is of great significance to take a green university campus integrating talent,research and technology as the research object.Currently,the vast majority of the universities see considerable energy consumption,high energy-consuming level,apparently negative impact on environment and less satisfactory study/work/life environment.Meanwhile,some pressing problems pending further consideration and solutions are noted in the green campus development,such as excessive use of green technologies,vague and general standards,and superficial form that often overweighs the real effect.This paper,from three levels of spatial dimension,i.e.planning,architecture and landscape and with an emphasis on the difference between the newly built campus and the existing ones in term of time dimension,conducts systematic research on the status quo and design strategies of the green campuses in the area of hot summer and warm winter(Lingnan Region)and Singapore.While contributing some new research contents in this field,it may also help solve the problems encountered in the green campus development in the area of hot summer and warm winter(Lingnan Region)and enhance the environmental performance of green campus design,thus maximize the green campus’ s function in talent cultivation and micro-climate regulation and highlight its leading position as a model for sustainable development in the society.Taking architect as an active player,this paper establishes a theory framework for green campus design in hot and humid region and defines the corresponding design concepts based on the design theory of Two Concepts(holistic and sustainable concepts)and Three Features(place,culture and time),architectural creation system theory,landscape ecology theory,sustainable development theory,building climatology and green building assessment system.It also makes summary for the green campuses in the area of hot summer and warm winter(Lingnan Region)and Singapore in terms of development principles,mode,contents,steps,status quo and existing problems.In light of the design theory for green campus in hot and humid region and the systematic statistics and analysis of the green campus development in the area of hot summer and warm winter(Lingnan Region)and Singapore,this paper lays an emphasis on the difference between the newly built campus and existing ones,and,from three levels,i.e.planning,architecture and landscape,establishes the green campus design theory and strategies for hot and humid region;then these theories and strategies are integrated into systematic green campus design methodology for the said region.The feedbacks on the new campus practices that are guided by such methodology,including both new campus development and the old campus renewal,can in turn validate and improve the theory step by step.Chapter I Introduction gives a general view of the research;Chapter II provides statistics of the existing development conditions of green campus in hot and humid regions and inter-regional comparative analysis.Chapter III summarizes the theoretical basis for green campus design in hot and humid regions.Chapter,Based on the holistic design methodology,elaborates the ideology of holistic architectural design and introduces the holistic concept into the green campus design.In view of the basic characteristics of holistic green campus design(such as inter-disciplinary crossing,green-humanity integration,spanning over multiple scales and design levels throughout the entire life cycle of buildings),this paper proposes that the holistic green campus design should strive to create sustainable campus that is both green and humanistic through the integration of planning,architecture and landscaping and the unity of place,culture and time.From a synergetic and holistic design perspective,a framework of holistic design theory for the green campus in hot and humid regions is established.This framework includes the holistic design in terms of design contents,design process and design strategy across various discipline levels such as planning,architecture and landscape.With holistic view and the outlook on sustainable development as the theoretical basis,Chapter IV presents a systemic green campus planning and design strategy from the perspectives of site spatial layout,energy system,comprehensive utilization of water resource,solid waste resource utilization,green traffic system,landscape ecosystem,historical features and views,physical environment,green building system and smart campus.Chapter V,based on Two Concepts(holistic and sustainable concepts)and Three Features(place,culture and time),puts forward an architectural design strategy that incorporates regional culture,the spirit of the times and green technologies and showcases the nature of place,culture and time for green campus buildings in hot and humid regions.With the environmental performance of the campus building as the key indicator,the logic of design strategy is built with consideration to the traditional building practice in Lingnan area,renovation demand of existing building,features of campus building and climatic features in hot and humid regions,while the logical organization is based on the existing design division and practice and specialties involved in the design team to align with China’s green building evaluation standard.From the perspective of the active involvement of the architect and coordination of multiple specialties,the design practice should be directed by the elements under the control and influence of the architect.The comprehensive design strategy includes building space layout,sunshade,ventilation and air conditioning,daylighting,site water conservation and non-traditional water resource,multi-level greening,renewable energy,green building material,building industrialization and prefabricated building,Green BIM application and smart and green building.In Chapter VI,with Two Concepts(holistic and sustainable concepts)and Three Features(place,culture and time)as the guidelines,the elements of natural landscape and humanistic environment in green campus landscape design are considered,and a landscape design strategy for green campus in hot and humid regions is established based on both natural ecology and humanistic context.The strategy based on natural ecology includes eco-green network,eco-diversity design,ecological restoration,rainwater-adaptive landscape and campus permaculture design,while the strategy based on humanistic ecology aims to inherit the unique university spirit and culture,continue and carry forward the campus historical context and its people first concept,and reflect the spirit of place,the green campus culture and landscape education.Finally a holistic design strategy comprising natural landscape,humanistic landscape and technological support is formed.Chapter VII concludes the research and envisions related subsequent researches. |
