With the rapid development of socio-economic and the increasing foreign trade in the Yangtze River basin, there is growing demand of Yangtze River container transportation. However, due to the current lack of sound judgment of container transport demand and unified planning of the Yangtze River container development, the transport organization, port construction of the Yangtze River container transportation are difficult to adapt to the objective development requirements. With consideration of this, this paper deals with several issues in Yangtze River container transport system, namely demand prediction, shipping rout allocation and organization. The results of this paper could provide decision making guideline for governments and shipping companies when constructing Yangtze River container transport system.Mathematics analysis, systematic analysis and planning as well as computer simulation technology are applied in this paper. Several key problems are solved on the basis of the systematic analysis of current status and development environment of Yangtze River basin. Firstly, he prediction method of multi factor dynamic correlation coefficient based on foreign trade container is proposed and be applied to forecast the demand of container transportation in Yangtze River. Secondly, an optimization model for Yangtze River container transport system with the aim of minimizing total social cost is designed, and a multi-stage system optimization method which comprises transport subsystem and port organization subsystem optimization is proposed as well. The Yangtze River basin container transport system is optimized using the models, based on predicted demand of the container transport. Thirdly, with the consideration of optimization results and actual situation of the Yangtze River container transport system, EM-Plant simulation software is used to build simulation model of the Yangtze River container transportation system, by which the simulation evaluation for the optimization result is obtained. Finally, in view of the above analysis and optimization program, development orientation and goals of the Yangtze container transporting system are proposed, meanwhile, development orientation and pattern of seaports on Yangtze River are demonstrated, and measures and suggestions for the development of the Yangtze container transport system are put forward.
