Oilfield services industry refers to the place where oil fields are the principal business, and a productive service industry that mainly provides the oil and gas exploration and production with engineering support and solutions for is an important part of the oil industry. With the continuous development of Chinese economy, the further promotion to industrialization and urbanization, and the increasing demand for energy especially oil and gas resources since the reform and opening up, expanding demand and limited supply capacity conflicts sharply, and the growing demand for oil and gas resources promote a full range of needs for the market of oilfield services industry as well. Oilfield services industry in China is simultaneously about to step into a new stage.That large integrated oil companies are gradually separated into oil companies and oilfield service companies, is the requirements of the inherent law in the oil industry, and the inevitable result that oil companies try to improve efficiency and to optimize of resources allocation. In order to focus on the development of its core business, reduce the exploration and development cost of oil and gas and enhance the competitiveness, oil companies have to separate non-core business from the oil companies and entrust them to the oilfield services companies. With the increasingly fierce competition in the global oil industry, the importance of the oilfield services industry in the oil industry gradually stands out.At present, the development of the oilfield service industry in China ushers a critical opportunity. The status of oilfield service companies in the oil industry chain also gradually improves. Therefore, much close attention is payed to the oilfield services industry characteristics, the history and/or the reason about the separation between the oil companies and the oilfield services companies, the current market dynamics in the development of oilfield services, and the global oilfield service situation of industrial organization and so on. What’s more compared with the large international oilfield service companies, Chinese oilfield services companies bear competitive disadvantages of smaller scale and lower technical level. So, a careful analysis of current situation of global oilfield service industry industrial organization will help put forward meaningful policy suggestions on the development of oil field service industry in our country, and which will be the reference for development and reform of Chinese oilfield service industry. With the global oilfield service industry as the research object, the SCP frame as an analytical tool, and the literature research, qualitative and quantitative integrated research and comparative research as the methods, this thesis summarizes the oilfield services industry characteristics,the history and/or the reason of the separation between the oil companies and the oilfield services companies, and analyze the development of the oilfield services market dynamics. After a detailed analysis of the organization situation of global oilfield service industry from the market structure, market conduct and market performance three aspects, the thesis puts forward some policy suggestions on the development of Chinese oil field services, which will provide a significant reference for the development of the oilfield service industry in China.There are seven main chapters in this thesis.Chapter Ⅰ is intro8duction which mainly includes the background and significance of the topic. It also summarizes the theoretical basis and the domestic&foreign research status closely related to the topic. The research ideas, research methods, contents framework and innovation points of this thesis are also illustrated here.Chapter Ⅱ is about the oilfield service industry analysis. This chapter defines the concept of the oilfield service industry, including the definition of the oilfield service industry and the oil industry chain. And then it analyses the basic characteristics, industrial properties and their industry segments of the oilfield services industry.Chapter III is about the history and/or reason for separation between oilfield services companies and oil companies. This chapter summarizes the emergence and development of the oilfield services industry, elaborates on the evolution process and/or the reasons of the separation between the oilfield services companies and the oil companies, and finally analyzes the future development trend of the relationship between oilfield service companies and oil companies.Chapter IV is about market dynamics of the development of oil field service industry. Combined the present international oil and gas exploitation situation and characteristics, this chapter finds out the market dynamics of the oilfield services industrial development, which includes oil prices rebounding, investment in exploration and development increasing, oil and gas development transferring from land to sea, efforts to exploit unconventional oil and gas resources intensifying,oil companies expanding into the overseas market and the promotion of the serviceability in oilfield service companies.Chapter Ⅴ is analysis of market structure about oilfield services. This chapter elaborates the classification of the industry market structure and factors influencing it. Then it analyzes the market concentration, the entry and exit barriers, and the product differentiation in oilfield services industry.Chapter Ⅵ is analysis of market competition conduct about oilfield services. This chapter starts with the competitive environment of oilfield services, with the Porter’s Five Force Model adopted to introduce the three main international competitors and analyze the price and non-price behavior, which includes technology research and development, strategic alliance, market expansion and merger&acquisition or reorganization of oilfield service companies.Chapter Ⅶ is about the market performance analysis of oilfield services. This chapter summarizes the market performance measurement indicators, and on this basis, it analyzes the oilfield services market performance problems from the resource allocation efficiency, scale structure efficiency and technical progress of global oilfield service industry.Chapter Ⅷ is about the revelation for the Chinese oilfield services industry development. On the basis of research above, this chapter carries on the analysis about the present situation of the industrial organization of Chinese oilfield services, finds out the advantages and disadvantages of the development of Chinese oil field service industry. Finally it puts forward several policy suggestions for the oilfield service industry development of our country from the technical accumulation, market opening, domestic upgrading and overseas accelerating four aspects.Chapter Ⅸ is the conclusions and outlooks. Summarizes the thesis, and come to this conclusion and proposed future research prospects.The innovations of this thesis are:The fist is the topic. As far as I can see, there are few literature related to the topic nowadays, especially when the oilfield services industry in China is still at a preliminary stage,so the related research is much fewer. This thesis is based on the paper named SCP paradigm of the global oilfield service industry analysis,should be a certain perspectiveness and innovativeness;The second is the thought. Combined with industry characteristics and the analysis of the development history and the market dynamics, this paper focuses closely on the analysis of oilfield services industry organization and starts with industry economics basic theory, and then make an deep analysis about the global oilfield service industry market structure, market conduct and market performance with the SCP framework of industrial organization method adopted. Finally it puts forward development countermeasures and suggestions on the basis of the current industrial organization situation of Chinese oilfield services;The last is the contents. This thesis aims at providing a reference for the development and reform of Chinese oilfield services industry through this topic. Most of the existing researches related to oilfield services industry are analysis from the point of the oil service enterprise t strategies. However, this thesis analyzes the Chinese oilfield service industry from the height of the industry development, and provides policy suggestions to the development and reform of oilfield services from the macro level.
