In the world’s economic history, differentiation is a common economicphenomenon. With comprehensive and high-speed growth in recent years,2012ChineseGDP reached$8.34trillion, which only behind EU and USA. With rapid economicdevelopment, regional economic differences are not able to significantly reduce, buthave a tendency to expand. New economic geography theory suggests that, transportation infrastructure has a marked impact on the spatial coordination of regionaleconomic. So theoretically studying the impact of transportation infrastructure onregional economic, and accurately grasp the economic laws, which likely to find a newway to solve regional economic disparities in China. There’re a lot of overseas anddomestic research literature about the interaction relations of transportationinfrastructure and regional economic, but most of them are mainly focused on Europeand America region, and are not attribute the spatial property of transportationinfrastructure and regional economy into the analysis framework, that left a vastdevelopment space for thesis research. The existing theoretical research and practical experience shows that, transportation infrastructure has many implications on regional economy. For betteraccurately grasping the economic laws under the spatial perspective:first, based on the"center-periphery" model of new economic geography,Paper built three regionalspatial economics model that included transportation infrastructure and regionaleconomy into the unified theoretical framework for the mathematical analysis;second, based on the theoretical analysis results, paper practical investigate the influence oftransportation infrastructure on regional economic growth, regional economiccomprehensive efficiency and regional economic integration, with frontier economicsanalysis method just as spatial econometric model, gravity-boundary effect model, three stages of data envelopment analysis, instrumental variable method and so on; inthe end, reference a series of conclusions on two aspects of theoretical deduction andempirical research, paper puts forward suggestions for promoting the reasonable layoutand effective construction of traffic infrastructure, and Chinese economic coordination, sustainable growth. The main contents of the paper are:First,as the premise of follow-up study, this paper summarize the relevant theory of transportation infrastructure and regional economic. To start from overseas anddomestic studies of transportation infrastructure, regional economic and interactiverelationship, this paper compared and systemized the relevant research literature, summarized and extracted the strengths and weaknesses of existing research possessory, which lay the solid theoretical foundation for subsequent research.Second, study the influencing mechanism of transportation infrastructure onregional economy. Based on "center-periphery" Model, paper built transportationinfrastructure and regional economic interaction spatial model according to the neweconomic geography, for studying internal interaction mechanism from the theoreticallevel. The research results show that, transportation infrastructure reasonable layout isconducive to forming new regional agglomeration economy, which helps to promotelocal economic growth; good conditions of transportation infrastructure, will improvethe regional industrial division, increase the efficiency of regional economy; effectiveconstruction of transportation infrastructure, will break the original trade barriers andaccelerate the factors movement, that is conducive to the formation of regionaleconomic integration.Third, study the influence of transportation infrastructure on regional economicgrowth. With spatial econometric models to remove spatial heteroscedasticity andcorrelation, this paper studies the actual influence of transportation infrastructure onChinese economic growth from2001to2011. Studies have shown that, On the one hand, transportation infrastructure stock to increase, transportation infrastructure coverage toexpand, passenger capacity and volume of freight traffic rise that are greatly promotingChinese economic growth; on the other hand, Chinese transportation infrastructureembodied obviously block and differentiation spatial distribution, which is notconducive to Chinese rapid economic growth. In addition, with the comprehensiveconstruction of transportation infrastructure in recent years, the influence ofgeographical environment’s on Chinese economy is not obvious, but the increase offixed capital investment and labor force, the improvement of R&D spending, and theexpansion degree of opening obviously play a promoting effect.Fourth, study the influence of transportation infrastructure on regional economiccomprehensive efficiency. With the DEA three-phase model removing the influence ofenvironmental variables and random error, paper first calculates the comprehensiveefficiency of Chinese economic in2001-2011, and then uses spatial panel model toanalyze dual influences of transportation infrastructure on Chinese economic comprehensive efficiency. The results shown that,2001-2011the overall levelcomprehensive efficiency of Chinese economic is not high, and spatial distribution isimbalance. In sample time, efficient provinces generally concentrated in the easternregion, and inefficient provinces generally focus on the central and western regions;transportation infrastructure has significant positive influence on the comprehensiveefficiency of Chinese economic, in which direct effect accounted for42.92%, andspatial effect accounted for57.08%. In transportation infrastructure systems, promotedegree which to the comprehensive efficiency of Chinese economy from high to lowarrangement as follows: railway, second class road, first class road, highway, third classroad and fourth class road, substandard road and waterway.Fifth, study the influence of transportation infrastructure on regional economicintegration. Paper first built new Chinese provincial trade flow index, and then analyzedthe influence of transportation infrastructure on Chinese regional economic integrationwith modified gravity-boundary effect model from the total and individual level, whichmodel introduce the traffic infrastructure and adjacency effect variables. The resultsprove that,2011Chinese provincial trade boundary effect is located between4and19,which is close to the developed countries levels in the1990s; transport infrastructureconditions improved not only promoted the Chinese provincial trade volume, but alsocan reduce the boundary effect and improve the trade flow between provinces, whichhave a dual positive impact on Chinese regional economic integration. In addition, theexpansion degree of opening and the improvement of urbanization rate are conducive torealize Chinese regional economic integration as soon as possible.Paper has the following theoretical and methodological innovations:First, based on the "center-periphery" model, paper builds a new three areasspatial economic model with transportation infrastructure parameters, which bring thetransportation infrastructure and the regional economic into the unified spatialtheoretical framework, for comprehensively and deeply studying the influencingmechanism of transportation infrastructure on regional economic.Second, original combining the three stage DEA with spatial panel model, paperstudies the actual effect of transport infrastructure on regional economic comprehensiveefficiency more accurately from the perspective of space. Paper use the three stage DEAmodel estimates the comprehensive efficiency of Chinese economic, that eliminatingthe influence of external environment and the random error, avoiding the estimate defectof traditional DEA model; and then use spatial panel model to analyze the influence of transportation infrastructure on Chinese economic comprehensive efficiency, from twoangles of spatial effect and direct effect.Third, paper build the new Chinese provincial trade flows index, which make upfor the loopholes that provincial trade flows can’t be computed after2007; bringtransportation infrastructure and adjacency effect variables into the gravity–boundaryeffect model for amending, and then with instrumental variable method to eliminateendogenous variables affect of transportation infrastructure, accurately analyze theinfluence of transportation infrastructure on Chinese regional economic integration fromthe perspective of total and individual.
