This paper presents a deeply research on polysiloxane multimode optical ridgewaveguide for optical interconnection. The optical ridge waveguide was fabricated bythe soft molding and transferring patterns. Experiment platform was set up formeasuring optical propagation loss of waveguides. The propagation loss of waveguideswas measured by different method. The experiment results showed that the length andthe propagation loss of polysiloxane optical waveguide can fulfil demand of opticalinterconnection. The polydimethylsiloxane was modified by physics and chemistry inforenamed foundation. The lesser refractive index difference of the core layer and thecladding layer was gained. The length and the propagation loss of the modifiedpolydimethylsiloxane optical waveguide could fulfil demand of optical interconnectiontoo. The relationship between the bending loss and the curvature radius of theforenamed polysiloxane multimode optical waveguide was analyzed in this paper byusing the Marcuse straight waveguide approximation method and equivalent refractiveindex method when waveguide curved. The experiment of measuring bending loss byusing the digital scattering method.was designed, and bending loss was measured. Theexperiment results showed that the optical bending loss was between0.55~0.8dB/cmwhen the curvature radius was between5~6mm. This agree with the theory in view ofthe inherent propagation loss of the prepared polysiloxane straight waveguide.A polymer waveguide grating couplers with gradually changing periods for opticalinterconnection were proposed and designed, which possess the function ofin/out-of-plane couple and focusing. It can realize turning according to needed angle inray route and coupling with optical waveguide. The diffraction characteristics of thewaveguide grating couplers with gradually changing periods were investigated byHelmholtz equation and the method of transfer-matrix. The relationship of correlationparameters are analyzed. Their corresponding numerical simulation results are given. The grating periodicity fulfilling-1order diffraction is designed, and excitationdirection is calculated. A chirp grating couple fulfilling coupling behave of gratingcouple with gradually changing periods was designed. The grating periods focusposition was numerated. A method that Col1ins formula was used to analyze prismcouple and waveguide propagation900turning coupling was put forward. The systemiccoupling efficiency was estimate. The phenomena of polarization rotation induced by cross polarization modulation(XPolM) and self-modulation of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is analyzedtheoretically. The relationship between polarization parameters and gain as well asphase is obtained by the correlation parameter of ellipse polarization and SOA nonlinearity polarization rotation theory. In experiments the power variety at everyperpendicularity axes is achieved through measuring the output power. When one of thetwo perpendicular axes powers presents obvious cosine gene change or great powerchange, it indicates that the phase difference between TE mode and TM mode variesgreatly. That is to say that the polarization state changes considerably. The physical mechanism of optical switch and the improvement of extinction ratioby SOA XPolM are analyzed theoretically. A switch scheme through SOA XPolM isdesigned. The experiment validates that the scheme can improve the switch extinctionratio. The coupling between TE mode and TM mode of SOA is discussed by thetheoretical model of perpendicular polarization mode coupling in crystal.
