"Mei Old Man Inscriptions" Research

Focused on Meisou Colophon, this dissertation has made comprehensiveresearch and correction on the works left by Shen Zengzhi, includingthe relationships among Meisou Colophon, Selected Articles of HairiTower(unpublished), Selected Poems of Hairi Lou, Stramonium Somniloquy,and Reading Notes of Hairi Tower. This dissertation is intended to recoverits origin as much as possible, and could be fundamental to the all-roundacknowledgement of Shen Zengzhi and his works.Meisou Colophon includes the written works by Shen Zengzhi throughouthis life and is of great academic and artistic values. This dissertationtakes colophons as examples to illustrate the development of Shen’scalligraphy styles and his artistic views, so as to clear somemisunderstandings and review the changes on the calligraphy of the lateQing dynasty.This dissertation includes six chapters: Catalogue Summary of ShenZengzhi’s books, the Amendments on Meisou Colophon, the Research andCorrection on Hairi Lou Colophon, The Research on Shen Zengzhi’s OtherNames and Seals——Take Meisou Colophon as an Example, Reviewing theChange of Calligraphy Styles of Shen Zengzhi from Meisou Colophon, ShenZengzhi’s Calligraphy Ideology——Meisou Colophon as the Center Piece, etc.As to the research methodology, this dissertation gives attention toboth written works and image analysis, and uses paper research, comparison,permutation, and statistics, to achieve the theoretical logic to reachnew discoveries and inventions.
