Study On Design Language Of Post-industrial Landscape

Since the21st century, the tertiary industry based on service business has been flourishing. Meanwhile, there is a tendency among traditional industries to decline. As industrial sites appear everywhere in cities, Post-industrial Landscape booms like bamboo shoots after a spring rain. It indicates that the Post-industrial Landscape has become an important topic across the world, and it springs up in our country. However, there are many serious issues in Post-industrial Landscape designing, such as overreacting to formality, lack of in-depth understanding and without sufficient connotation. In this context, it is important and urgent to design with theoretical methods. In this paper the author studied Post-industrial Landscape theories and practices with the method of design language.The author integrated design language theory into the practice of Post-industrial Landscape designing by interdisciplinary methods including field research, literature study, experience summarizing and linguistics. Firstly, the concepts, types and development of Post-industrial Landscape were introduced; the literature and theory of the Architecture and Landscape design language reviewed; and the design elements, methods and environments of Post-industrial Landscape analyzed. The author built the study structure of Vocabulary-grammar-context. Secondly, in the vocabulary section, the author elaborated the independence and separation of words and terms of Post-industrial Landscape; classified them according to the site, buildings, structures, industrial equipment, sculptures, waste materials and plants; analyzed them by the vocabulary form, frequency of use, the historical context, industrial expression and other aspects; then extracted the classical vocabularies. In the grammar section, the author expounded the abstract and general characteristics; explained it from space organization, scale balancing, rhetorical devices, old and new relationship; then extracted and purified the core grammar of Post-industrial Landscape. In the context section, the author set forth the complexity and dynamic state; explained it from the perspective of social culture, site characteristics, economic budget, requirements and design concepts; then analyzed some key contextual designs. Finally, the author summarized the design language of Post-industrial Landscape; pointed out the significance of designing practice and the direction of future research.Through studying a quantity of domestic and foreign cases, the author built the design language framework of Post-industrial Landscape and summarized the typical vocabularies, core grammar and critical context. The author had innovation in methodology of Post-industrial Landscape. It provides guidance for the rapid development of industrial landscape theoretically and practically.
