Manchuria Review And Puppet Manchukou

Manchuria Review was a news comment weekly journal founded by Japanese literati taking social activities in Puppet Manchukou. It was commenced on August, in1931, the eve of September18Incident, and stopped publication on April28,1945, one month before the unconditional surrender declaration of Japan, and the publication period was almost the14years when Puppet Manchukou existed. There were676issues or19volumes of Manchuria Review in total, and every half year published collections made one volume. From1979to1981, The first28volumes was reproduced by Ryuukeishosha Co.Ltd., and it was took as precious documents and appreciated by Puppet Manchukou academia in Japan.Manchuria Review has been concerned by the Chinese and Japanese academia, not just in the Puppet Manchukou Research field, for a long time. In recent year, due to the high historical material value, it is payed increasing attention by lots of subject areas, such as studies on the modern history of East Asia, Colonial literature, immigration problem, Intellectual history, etc. However, no mature and ideal work has been done for the systematical and deep study on Manchuria Review journal itself. Today, because the study on puppet Manchukou by China and Japan is becoming mature gradually, research data in relation is more plenary, and academic research atmosphere is more open and free, the external environment and internal reason for intensive study on Manchuria Review is fully mature. Re-sorting and analysis of the14year publication of Manchuria Review is becoming more and more necessary. Fist of all, attention to the foundation of Manchuria Review is payed. The life of the most important figure of the journal, Shiraki Tachibana and Sadatomo Koyama, and the relation between them and this journal is discussed. From the perspective of transplantation of Colonial culture, the thought source of the journal in the early time is demonstrated. Second of all, taking the construction of Manchuria Review as the center, textual research on the change course of the editors is done and the attention and claims of the journal are cleared up by studying the news comment column of the journal issue by issue. The albums of the journal are classified and analyzed and the timeline of the journal and Puppet Manchukou is attached as appendix to illustrate the discussion of the dissertation.The news comment column is the principle part of the journal, and besides, the multiple construction elements of Manchuria Review is also important, such as the rural problem study of northeast China in charge by Daishiro Sato, literature column by Shin’ichi Yamaguchi, and the report of Manchuria youth alliance and Kyowa by Sadatomo Koyama.The last chapter divert the attention from Manchuria Review itself, and something in relation is studied to assess the value and significance of this journal. Firstly, the achievement of the Chinese and Japanese scholars is settled and summarized, and the inexact and inaccurate parts are figured out. Secondly, the famous Ryuukeishosha Event in Japan academia as a result of the reprinting of Manchuria Review is discussed, because the reprinting is as interesting as the foundation of Manchuria Review. Finally, Manchuria Review Series about the important articles posted in Manchuria Review edited and published by Manchuria Review Press is discussed, because the study on these publications is an important approach to invest the intellectual history of Manchuria Review.The study on Manchuria Review itself and related area is just an excavation of parts of the journal and social activities in its times, and the results are not mature. However, some innovations are included in the dissertation and they are as follows. The analysis and classification method is a breakthrough. Attention to the confrontation between militarism and Marxism tendency is payed and militarism and Marxism are discriminate scientifically. The settlement and study on the relation between Manchuria youth alliance and Kyowa, and the literature element and immigration reports of the journal is advanced in relation ares study. Especially, the excavation of the albums and separate editions, the investigation of Daishiro Sato and the peasant movement in northeast China, and the description of the Long Xi Press Event is significative work in related ares. In brief, the dissertation make some contribution to enriching the literature and journal study of Puppet Manchukou.The study on Manchuria Review just begin, and it will boom in the future in Chinese and Japanese academia.
