In forty years which from the "Ren Yin"system issued in the late Qing Dynasty to the founding of new China, the secondary school education evolved from initiation, development to change gradually.During this course,the educationists,especially the secondary school educators,widely discussed the educational system reform,the aim of education,division,selection and training.Meanwhile,the educators explored in practice actively.Their efforts sped up the development of secondary school,made the secondary education system gradually perfect and became the rich thoughts of secondary education.In order to inherit the ideology of the secondary education better in modern China and excavate its value of the times fully, it is necessary for us to arrange,explain, analyze,and summary on it in the history of educational thoughts.Not only will it help us to understand the development of secondary school in modern China,but help us to better know about the problems and contradictions today.It is helpful to deepen and strengthen the elementary education,especially the reform of secondary education.The article includes the introduction,five chapters and epilogue.The introduction part,mainly explain the research reason,definition,literature review, research ideas and methods.The body part includes five chapters.The first chapter discusses the foundation of the thoughts of secondary education in modern China.Evolvement of secondary educational thoughts in modern China is not only the reference of western educational thoughts,but also the sublation and inheritance of the traditional educational thoughts.The process is dynamic.The western education spread widely in modern China had very great impact on the traditional educational thoughts.The church schools brought the new elements for the Chinese education,and the reform of the tradition education provided the opportunities for the secondary educational thoughts.Because of this,the ordinary secondary education was finally institutionalized.The second chapter to the fifth chapter is era veining of historical development.It discussed four periods---from1911to the May4th Movement eve,from the May4thMovement to the1927, the beginning of the national government and the later period of national government.The paper mainly discusses from following several transverse dimensions:first one is the historical background of the secondary educational thought in every period;the second one is the aim of secondary education,the reform of secondary educational system, the secondary education curriculum and teaching reform;the third one is the training thoughts of secondary education in every period.The first is discussion on the aim and purpose of middle school. That is, at the level of middle school education, such issues as purport setting in the early years of the Republic of China, as giving consideration to both further studies and employment in National Government Period, as well as objectives and characteristics at wartime involved.The second is discussion on the issue of system reform in middle school. Education system, as a guideline in the entire education system, providing the organization establishment of schools at all levels, curriculum provision and other school system, so was the orientation for the entire school system expansion, since the implementation of Renyin school system in late Qing dynasty, our middle school system changes over several times, while the length of studies lengthening and shortening, course content was occasionally the division of liberal Arts or two subjects established meanwhile. Therefore, in the history of the whole middle school education, controversies always exist in academic and ideological circle around issues such as division with the selection of subjects, fixed years of middle school education, system democratization and so on.The third is the problem of basic theory in discipline and discipline unity. Discussion about discipline is a constant theme at the entire period of the National Government, that is, controversy of the unity of discipline and teaching to the separation of them, although the discipline research was relatively dilute in the National Government, discussion of discipline problems had a relatively quiet period, this does not affect the discussion of this topic. In theory, even early years in the National Government to the late, the unity of discipline and teaching has been a difficult problem the academia facing, while this theme has been basically reached a consensus, due to the impact of the political relations are somewhat narrow and negative in the implementation process, making the effect of discipline implementation is not significant, which is why the unity of discipline and teaching makes a consistent understanding, but of its discussion had never been stopped.The last part is the conclusion.According to the whole paper and the development of the secondary educational thoughts, the value of the secondary educational thoughts in modern China will be found.
