Sport tourism industry is an emerging industry. There is no unified theoretical framework or scientific, comprehensive evaluation index system in treating the comprehensive analysis of the competitiveness of sport tourism industry. Based on "Diamond Model" as the theoretical framework, and with the help of researching techniques such as literature material, expert interviewing and Delphi Method, this article conducts a thorough research to the competitiveness of China’s sport tourism industry. The main conclusions are as follows:Firstly,the five factors that influence competitiveness of sport tourism are:factors of production, market demand, related industry, enterprise competition and government behavior. The mechanism of their influence on competitiveness of sport tourism industry is:the sport tourism resources, human resources and infrastructure exert influence on competitiveness of sport tourism industry from various aspects. Market demand affects the width and speed of competitiveness of sport tourism industry through demand differences and anticipated market demand. Related industries react on competitiveness of sport tourism industry via technical innovation and infrastructure construction. The scale of enterprises, products and marketing level influence the enhancing of competitiveness;And government plays a role of financial support, industrial planning and industrial policies in the competitiveness of sport tourism industry.Secondly, competitive structure model of China’s sport tourism industry deems that government regulation is the key factor for the competitiveness of sport tourism industry.Thirdly, the evaluation index system of competitiveness of China’s sport tourism industry includes5first class indexes and35two level indexes. In the5first class indexes, power of government regulation enjoys the highest weight coefficient.It shows government regulation is more important in the competitiveness of sport tourism industry in China. Fourthly, analysis of the current situation of China’s sport tourism industry shows that:the power of government regulation is not a competitive advantage; Competitive advantage is not obvious especially in the small scale of the enterprise;Sport tourism resources have a strong competitive advantage in the power of factors, however, the lack of sport tourism talents solemnly restricts competitiveness upgrading of China’s sport tourism industry;Market demand for domestic sport tourism has a strong competitive advantage, and the international sport tourism market also has gradually opened up its space;Industry concentration degree constrains competitiveness elevation.Fifthly, promotion strategy of industry competitiveness of China’s sport tourism:give full play to the functions of government to enhance the power of government regulation; expand marketing channels to elevate the competitiveness of enterprises; improve marketing level of the sport tourism product to strengthen the competitiveness of enterprises; broaden the talent supply channels to compact factor supply capacity; develop sport tourism market both at home and abroad to release the market demand force;construct cluster of sport tourism industry to strengthen industrial support.
