| Cinema is the latest and most young one of the great family of art. The others are regarded as a long history and even ancient, such as painting, sculpture, dance, literature, music, and some appeared in the primitive society, already have a brilliant achievement and a long tradition. There is no more than 120 years, since the appearing of cinema in the 1800 s. However, cinema have developed rapidly and has become a new form of art(The Seventh Art) after music, poetry, dance, architecture, painting and sculpture. As The Seventh Art, cinema different from other arts with some features, a principal one, it is the only one with a technical invention as the mark of emerging.We are in the age of advanced audiovisual, cinema, television, multimedia attract more and more attention of us. As a young art, movies have a more intimate contact with the people’s lives than many traditional arts, which also makes the movie has become a hot research point today. People explained the existence and evolve of film since it’s born by a variety of ways with so many research articles about art and technology. However, the symbiotic relationship and interaction between art and technology(the two indivisible parts of movie ontology) has not been completely elucidated. The most involving articles are specific technical and skills issues, and technology and skills are often considered "lack" of theory. When comes to technology and the movie, it is more elaborating digital technology and ignoring other performance skills and means in the literature after the 1990 s.Here, we investigated the development of film art from the perspective of technology. This article focused on the impact of development of film art technology, strived to understand and grasp the interaction between art and film, and explained that the demand of art stimulated the invention of new technologies in a certain extent, the development of technology promoted the art to a more advanced stage.This paper is divided into three parts.Part I: Preface. Description and assessment of the status of the current academic technology and film studies. Collating and reviewing the achievements and deficiencies of research about the impact of technology on the film, pointing out the significance, methods, content and innovation of this study.Part II: Chapter 1-6. The related concepts were introduced briefly at first, and then the impact of technological development for China Film Art was discussed from five major technical perspective.Chapter 1: Technology and movies. The definition of film technology was defined clearly, the significant meaning and impact of film technology for arts were pointed out by Description the history of film. In addition, analyzed from the perspective of the creators of the film, the reason why film art showing a rich artistic effect and art expressive is that creator of the film have different choices and actions about technology.Chapter 2: The birth of cinema. Elements of traditional art similar to the art of film was recalling at first, such as lantern, shadow, painting, and then the relationship of these early art and film was explained. After that, the birth of film created by the development of technology was discussed, like the birth of photography, photography and the invention of the projector. At last, the paper introduces the similarities and differences between the film art and other arts(such as drama, painting, fiction), and briefly discusses the main features of the film art.Chapter 3: Wonderful sound. This chapter selected four stages from silent to sound experienced: wax disc sound, film sound, magnetic recording and digital stereo. Firstly, the effect of the improvement of film and photofinishing technologies to the development of film was introduced, and the aesthetic characteristics of silent film was summarized. And then, the changes of narration and other aspects of film caused by adding voice and unique aesthetic features of sound film were discussed. Finally, the impact of the development of digital sound technology on the film was analyzed.Chapter 4: The colors. The usage of toner France and other technology in movie technology before color film appearing and the movie development situation at that technical conditions were introduced. And the aesthetic characteristics of early color film was analyzed. The impact of changes of light effects and adjust of color on development of film and the unique aesthetic characteristics of color film after the birth of color film were analyzed. Finally, the application of digital technology in terms of color film was discussed.Chapter 5: Deformation screen. The impact of the solution of anamorphic lens technology problems on wide-screen image quality was discoursed, and the changes on composition of film art and other aspects brought by wide-screen was analyzed. Then three-dimensional cinema was introduced in this chapter. The technical support of three-dimensional film was analyzed, and the aesthetic characteristics of three-dimensional movies was explored. Finally, 360 degree movie screen, IMAX dome movies and other large-screen movie were introduced.Chapter 6: Crazy digit. For traditional film movies, cameras art(movies) under film technology was analyzed from change of film and development of camera. Then the impact of digital technology on traditional film. Due to technical support, the film art has more magic expressive power, and therefore technology reflected in the broader art. Artistic effect limited by the technical content, technical differences in the operation and the playing will cause the film to achieving varies degree of expressive art, the emergence of a new and unexpected artistic effects, often obtained through technological advance. There is unlimited potential in film technology development, and makes the film art has unlimited possibilities in the creative space. No conflict between technology and film art that is interaction. Interactive relationship between technology and film art is fascinated: technology advances always driving the film art to a more advanced stage, and the pursuit of people for the art of film also to promote the continuous development of the technology. |
