With the rise of new martial art films in Hong Kong, three major kinds of sound effect in martial art films come into being—“masculinityâ€,“freehand brushwork†and “Kung Fuâ€. Since the implementation of opening-up and reform policy,the mutual integration and common prosperity among China mainland,Taiwan,Hong Kong and Macau have made the sound in Chinese martial art films more focused on sensory stimuli and auditory joy,which has completed the stage of “advancing with artistry†for Chinese martial art films. Entering the new century,Chinese directors attach greater importance to the exploration of Chinese traditional culture and humanistic spirits when constantly introducing advanced technology in Hollywood with a hope to create the martial art film sounds encompassed by the unique lingering charm of China, which indicates that the sound in Chinese martial art films step into the stage of “pursuing a doctrineâ€.
