Course handout, is very popular in university in the period of the Republic of China, especially in the teaching of Chinese Literature, History and Philosophy. Handouts’ generating, printing, using, communicating and spreading, composed an aspect of university culture ecology. It is a representative education phenomenon in the period of the Republic of China. Course handouts are relative with the school, course, teacher, student and classroom, they are important materials for the history of education. Course handout is very popular in the prime of modern college education. They are developing with the discipline education, witnessing and participating in many education events, and record the development of the discipline. Academic connotation and dynamic attribute of the course handout, provide a new angle on the history of the discipline and the academic. Research on the course handout is helpful to recognizing and analyzing the interaction between teaching and academic in the development of the discipline. In short, the course handout reflects the college education (including the education of discipline of Chinese Literature) in the period of the Republic of China and the construction of the modern discipline (including the discipline of Chinese Literature) in China, vividly, concretely and deeply. It is worth to follow and research.This paper centering on the Discipline of Chinese Literature (Chinese language and Literature, formerly known as Chinese Literature, linguistics and Chinese ect), researches on the course handout. The paper includes two parts. The first three chapters are basic research on the course handout-in-itself and the phenomenon of course handout, including teasing the clue, arranging the text, exploring the mechanism for generating and operating, and analyzing the background of the education and culture. The last three chapters take the course handout as the way: seeking some remains in the development of the Chinese Literature, investigating the education and academic of Chinese Literature in the period of the Republic of China. In the discussion, the two parts cross and confirm each other. Research on the course handout and the phenomenon includes three aspects. The first part presents the performance of the "course handout upsurge" in different education fields. Centering on the Peking University, it investigates the cultural ecology of course handout in university campus, and describes appearance of the course handout. This part provides the basic cognition of the course handout, and history context of course handout creating. The second part explains the creation of the course handout completely. It diachronic deduces the influence on course handout’s creating, that comes from the variety of the education system. It analyses the basic patterns of course handout’s creating around the classroom. Also, it investigates the influence on course handout’s creating, comes from teachers’ flowing, part-time work and the social education. The third part centering on the course handout printing in the college and the publishing in book companies, presents the operating mechanism of course handouts, and analyses the influence on the course handout’s producing and publishing. Above, conditions of Chinese Literature course handouts’creating and storage are sorted out in general, and Chinese Literature course handouts’visages are presented completely.It is also three parts in exploring the history and the education of the Chinese Literature through the course handout. First part the investigates semester, class hour, course system and teaching methods, and explores the main driving force to the forming of the discipline education system, by analyzing course handouts’styles and discourse. The second part completely presents the canonization of Chinese Literature course handouts’, taking Lu Xun’s<A brief history of Chinese Novels> as example. Referring to <A brief history of Chinese Novels>, it investigates the trend and the degree of some Chinese Literature course handouts’ canonization, and analysis what affects the course handouts’canonization. The last part studies the "prehistory" of the Modern Chinese Literature, using the course handout. It explores how the new literature exists in Chinese Literature education in the period of the Republic of China, and the procession that the new literature was taken into the college discipline system. It also investigates the teaching expression and psychology of the new literature writers in college, in order to explore the interaction between the Modern Chinese Literature and education. These parts expand the aspects which closely related to the education, providing new aspects and materials to the modern discipline and academic establishing.Researching on course handouts, it is a concentrated investigation of a special education phenomenon in the period of the Republic of China, also a system arrangement about an important material for history of discipline and education. It is the basic thinking and the fundamental target of this paper that, collecting and sorting the Chinese Literature course handouts, exploring the phenomenon of the course handout, investigating the history of Chinese Literature and discipline education. Moreover, this paper is a practice about downward historical perspective and history writing. It means that, getting rid of the discipline preinstall, closing to the true history by teasing the original text and details, building the vivid scene by following the relationship among concrete factors, presenting the history or fragment in appropriate historical context and atmosphere.
