On July 22 nd 2005, President of Vietnam, TRAN DUC LUONG spoke out his earnest wish that "Vietnam should strengthen Chinese education and let the younger generation know the history" during his visit to Guangxi University for Nationalities. Vietnam’s history and culture and Chinese’s culture are inseparable, all the temples, ancestral hall and the village historic sites have Chinese characters and poetic couplet setting, Confucius and Guan Yu were deeply worshiped. Looking at the government department, schools, companies, hotels, we often can see Chinese Calligraphy being hanged on the wall. Walk into a Vietnamese family, we often can see all the ancestral character writing couplets and plaques, the calligraphy is exquisite, neatly antithesis, and deep implication always makes the author stay and not want to leave.The study of Chinese language in Vietnam has a long history, there has been no disruption: studying of Chinese language in Vietnam has a very long history, it began as early as 5th Century. By 11 th Century, Vietnam established the imperial examination system, the study of Chinese language has become a classic, training 2906 Sinology scholars, including 56 very famous Number One Scholar. In 1991, with the normalization of China- Vietnam relationship, study of Chinese language in Vietnam regains. For more than 10 years, China Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong and Singapore companies and enterprises have invested in Vietnam, and set up the factory, which made a rapid growth of demand for Vietnamese that can speak Chinese. This demand led Chinese department in many universities of Vietnam becoming hugely popular. Chinese language has become a hot major. Therefore, study of Chinese language in Vietnam is also developing quickly.The author once studied advanced Chinese language teaching subject at Jilin University, receiving master’s degree and teaching Chinese language in Vietnam for a certain period of time, therefore a certain experience of Chinese teaching in Vietnam is accumulated. It is expected that through investigation and Research on the current situation of Chinese teaching in Vietnam, to demonstrate a real, comprehensive Chinese teaching situation in Vietnam at present. Through investigating and analysis of teachers team, learners of Chinese, materials and equipment etc, based on the obtained teaching data and material, this paper analyzes the status of Chinese teaching in Vietnam in-depth and some problems in Vietnam universities and colleges, puts forward some suggestions to promote the development of local Chinese teaching in Vietnam.This study uses questionnaire and interview survey method, through different research object and different study college, to make investigation and data acquisition by questionnaire, mail, direct interviews, telephone and other ways, making research by using integration, comparison, induction, deduction and analysis method, make a more comprehensive assessment of the status of Chinese teaching in Vietnam in Vietnam College, and put forward some effective suggestions for later improvement of the quality of Chinese teaching in Vietnam policy.It is seen through the investigation and study that Chinese teaching in Vietnam Colleges at present still has some problems: First of all, more and more people want to learn Chinese in Vietnam, but teachers appear to have a very big gap, teacher’s title is low, teacher with professor’s degree or vice professor’s degree is very few, Second, the overall design nationally of Chinese teaching in Vietnam is in shortage, Chinese teaching in Vietnam should be changed from the traditional facing to Beijing to facing the whole world of Chinese. Vietnam,on one hand, restore and maintain normal and friend relations with China Mainland, on the other hand, in its opening up policy, it advocates to set up friendly relation with friends of the whole worlds especially establishment of friendly relations between countries in Southeast Asia. Third, lack of financial investment in Chinese teaching in Vietnam College, Chinese language teaching equipment is not in place. Some college with Chinese major are equipped with the language lab, multimedia computer equipment, but they are public equipment of the foreign language department of the colleges, other colleges and universities that taking Chinese teaching as a second language or optional course only have a tape recorder or even with a book, a blackboard and teachers to complete a lesson in Chinese teaching, so the quality of teaching is low. Fifth, textbooks and reference books are poorly written, some of which are translated from Chinese textbooks by editors, there are many repeated version. One type of textbook may have several presses, some editors change the original version by adding the Vietnamese notes or supplementary exercises part. In view of the above problems, some advices are proposed in this paper: enriching elective curriculum resources; improve the Vietnamese students interests in learning Chinese; give Chinese language teaching material as gift to Vietnam and prepare learning material that is suitable for the local students; joint training of Chinese language teachers; strengthen joint training, China sends to Vietnam some volunteers in teaching Chinese language and also Vietnam may send personnel to China for oversea study.
