The period from the Eastern Han to Wei and Jin dynasties is the important stage in the historyof the development of Chinese characters, in which four kinds fonts (Li, Grass, Line and Kai) arewidely used, and implements the passage fonts from the official script to the regular script.Bamboo slips is the most important writing carrier in that period, but the textual research ofBamboo slips is relatively weak, and there is no a whole grasp of the words usage by scholars. Atthe same time, the paper also begins to enter the monument in the writing area, appearing thesituation the rare wood, stone, paper using together. The differences between different carriers arealso worthy of academic attention.First, this paper selects two batches of Bamboo slips of the Eastern Han dynasty as theresearch object, using the research methods of sampling survey, comparative analysis and thecombination from time implementation to grasp the overall situation of using daily words in theEastern Han dynasty.Second, this article compares the differences between wood, stone and paper, giving furtherstudy from two aspects of stroke and artifacts, then impels the study of writing differences ofdifferent writing carriers. The research shows that the bamboo slips in the Eastern Han Dynasty isin the late stage of the transition from Li calligraphy to Kai calligraphy, germinating the writingtechniques of Kai, and appeared as the interchangeably use of components. Differences of writingamong the three carriers: wood, stone and paper is significant. Physical properties of wood carriersare the most important factor restricted writing, and also the material basis of generating Licalligraphy. While for stone carriers, the restriction for writing is achieved by inscribing tools andmethods, and the text form differs when applying different inscribing methods. The minimalconstraints on writing is paper carriers, which provides free space that brings stroke flattening,rectangular of the character and the material basis for Kai calligraphy.This paper has nine parts. Following are the main contents: Chapter1: This part mainly introduces the general situation of Bamboo Slips ofthe Eastern Han dynasty, clarify the significance of this bamboo Slips, and illustrates theresearch methods and expected tasks, identifying the definition relating to theconcept.Chapter2: This part expounds the font and character form in the article, puttingforward new interpretation of the naming of zhang cao. At the same time, it grasps thewhole feature of the words usage in Bamboo slips of the Eastern Han dynasty from the twoaspects, stroke and part.Chapter3: This part makes a comparative study between Bamboo Slips andStone Inscriptions of the Eastern Han, selecting10groups from the two materialscommonly used Group. From the two different perspective “different parts” and“different strokes” to make a research of the material as written text produced by thedifferent writing carriers(Bamboo Slips and Stone Inscriptions).Chapter4: This part mainly indicates the comparative study between BambooSlips of the Eastern Han and Remnant Paper of Loula, selecting9groups from the twomaterials commonly used to make a comparative study, from the two differentperspective “different parts” and “different strokes” to investigate the differencesbetween the evolution of shape and different characters used in differentcarriers(Bamboo Slips and Papers) in Eastern Han, Wei and Jin Dynasties, nearly onehundred years in history.Chapter5: This part mainly indicates the comparative study between StoneInscriptions of the Eastern Han and Remnant Paper of Loula, selected10groups fromthe two materials commonly used to make a comparative study, from the two differentperspective “different parts” and “different strokes” to investigate the differentcharacters used in different carriers (Stone Inscriptions and Papers) and writing tools(nicking tool and writing brush) in Eastern Han, Wei and Jin Dynasties. It also canappear the impact of the character form by the difference of writing purpose, function,and content.Chapter6: This part mainly introduces the natural attributes of wood writingcarrier, and appropriates the special system of writing. And finally clarifies the far-reaching influence on the writing by wooden writing carrier from three levels: motion, stroke,and part.Chapter7: This part mainly introduces the social background of lithic writingcarrier widely used, the natural attributes of lithic writing carrier, and appropriates thespecial system of writing. And finally clarify the far-reaching influence on the writing bylithic writing carrier from three levels: motion, stroke, and part.Chapter8: This part mainly discusses the definition of “paper” and CaiLunimprovements on papermaking, the proportion of raw materials, and presents theoverview of unearthed situation about ancient paper of Western Han and Eastern Han,expounding the influence on system of writing by paper. And finally clarifies thefar-reaching influence on the writing by papery writing carrier from three levels:motion, stroke, and part.Chapter9: This part mainly introduces the complex relationship between thefunction of writing, font and character form, inferring the new change about the triadicrelation in paperless era.This article innovation has three main points: first, put forward new ideas aboutthe name of “zhang cao”; Second, from the perspective of three kinds of writingcarriers nature discusses different influence on all aspects of the Chinese characterwriting; Third, put prisoners’ tombstone into the same period study from technologystandpoint.
