Tasteful bribery, as a fact, exists in art history. As a form of artistic ecology, tastefulbribery has its particularity, and thus is different from other forms of artistic ecology.This paper discusses the tasteful bribery in Ming Dynasty due to two considerations,which are the originality of this topic and the abundant documents and materials ofthe tasteful bribery in Ming Dynasty.In a sense, Ming society was a reproduction of the Chinese society in previousdynasties; however, it shows its distinctiveness as it was developing. In the mid andlate Ming Dynasty, the politics was ruthless, while the culture and economy wasprosperous; people who came from different social classes were transforming theirconcepts.The paper starts from analyzing the social background of tasteful bribery in MingDynasty. Through recognizing the phenomenon of tasteful bribery throughout MingDynasty and analyzing those representative cases, the paper aims to reveal the socialroots of tasteful bribery, and its influence on artwork, artists and art market.
