Objective:To compare the effects of toluene aromatic hydrocarbon organic solvents on ocular surface after the enterprise do ventilation measures. Methods:to study the ocular surface health of the front-line employees of enterprise using toluene-based aromatic hydrocarbon organic solvent in Suzhou high-tech zone.Employees in the dispensing positions in the enterprise were considered as the occupational exposure group(24 cases,48 eyes),and employees in other assembly positions were considered as the control group(23 cases,46 eyes). The two groups were divided into short-term working group(1 month?working age<108 months)and long-term working group(108 months?working age<289 months)according to working age.Observe conjunctival hyperemia, corneal epithelial fluorescein staining score, tear film rupture time(BUT),ocular surface disease index(OSDI)and basic tear secretion(SIT)in the short-term working group and long-term working group of employees from the occupational exposure group and the control group. Results:Permissible concentration-time weighted average(PC-TWA)of the toluene aromatic hydrocarbon organic solvent concentration determined in the enterprise for three consecutive days were 20.4mg/m3,40.8mg/m3 16.3mg/m3,and Permissible concentration-short termexposure limit(PC-STEL)determined were 26.1mg/m3,70.4mg/m3 and 19.6mg/m3 respectively. The observation indicators of employees in the occupational hazard exposure group and the control group were not incompatible with the normal distribution by normal test, and the indicators were expressed by the median and interquartile range(M(QL?QU)).Median number of tear film rupture:both groups of employees were 12s(P=0.343);both short-term exposure group and long-term exposure group in the occupational hazard exposure group were 12s(P=0.343),short-term exposure group and long-term exposure in the control group were 12s(P=0.343).Comparison of the OSDI median scores of employees in the two groups:the occupational hazard exposure group was 13,which was lower than the control group score of 15(P=0.014);the short-term and long-term exposure group of the occupational hazard exposure group were both 15(P=0.241);17 of the short-term exposure group was higher than 16(P=0.070)of the long-term exposure group in the control group.Comparison of the median number of tear secretion volume in the two groups:15mm/5min of the occupational hazard exposure group was lower than 16mm/5min(P=0.211)of the control group;the short-term and long-term exposure group in the occupational hazard exposure group's were 15mm/5min(P=0.211),and the short-term and long-term exposure group in the control group were 16mm/5min(P=0.211).Incidence comparison of conjunctival hyperemia of employees between the two groups:the occupational hazard exposure group and control group were 12.5%and 4.3%respectively(X2=1.002 P=0.317);the short-term and long-term exposure groups in occupational hazard exposure group were 10%and 14.3%(P=0.535)respectively;the short-term and long-term exposure groups in the control group were 0%and 12.5%(P=0.535)respectively.Corneal epithelial fluorescein stainining:the gradel incidence of corneal epithelial fluorescence staining in the occupational hazard exposure group and the control group were 4.2%and 0%respectively;the short-term exposure group did not appear corneal epithelia fluorescence staining, and grade I incidence of corneal fluorescence staining in the long-term exposure group was 7.1%,and no corneal staining above grade I.Conclusion:according to the national protection design standard, protection of toluene aromatic hydrocarbon organic solvents still exist grade I corneal epithelial staining, and enterprises need to improve the protection measures or use non-toxic new materials and new processes continuously.
