The Investigations And Researchs On Wood Craft Of Zhejiang Traditional Architecture

Based on a lot of field investigations and interviews of traditional wood artisans, this thesis analyses and fully records traditional wood structure building techniques specifically representing each area of Zhejiang province, and theoretically explores structure systems and divisions on traditional wood structure building in Zhejiang.The thesis adopts field research of anthropology in study of Zhejiang traditional building techniques. The first-hand data is accumulated by interviewing more than 100 wood structure artisans, moreover deeply interviewing 24 skilled wood structure artisans, tracing and recording the development of 37 construction sites. On the basis of first-hand data, the thesis analyses the whole process from conception, design, construction, to installation on Zhejiang wood structure architecture.The thesis emphasizing discusses key design meaning like choice and estimation of material, confirmation of scale, and construction of ZhangGan etc. This thesis analyzes the taboos such as Obeying the rules of "East", "medium", "left","front" etc.The thesis discusses the method of mortise and tenon type, method of recording tenon size, tenon making process in several large areas in Zhejiang and analyzes principle and construction method of Mie Zhao-zuo,Zhi zhao-zuo,Xian Xian-zhao,Niu Tou-zhao,Che Gu-zhao,Hui Sun-zuo and Tuo Chi-zuo.The thesis analyzes the shape, scale and production process of beam, column, Fang, purlin, rafter. During the analysis of the old system of some components or practices, such as:Shuttle column, moon beam, the side of the foot, etc, the paper compares Zhejiang’s methods with others in the books "Ying Zhao Fa Shi" and "Ying Zao Fa Yuan".The thesis summarizes three types of assembly of wood structure in Zhejiang:puling the pin into a fan spell frame, the square frame composed of columns, beams and Fang, the combination of the square frame and pin rack and reviews the principles and procedures of the three methods.On the basis study of the technique, the thesis theoretically discriminates the systems and types of Zhejiang traditional wood structure. According to recessive characteristics such as wood structure building technique and structure systems, combining with nature geography, humanity history, and language distract, the thesis preliminarily theoretically explores divisions on Zhejiang traditional wood structure architectures.
