A Study On Theories And Methods Of Chinese Cemetery Design

Because of large population and land resources shortage, rational utilization of land and saving land is the basic state policy and long-term interests of China. On the background of building a resource-conserving and environment friendly society, the dissertation explores to construct a set of theories and methods of Chinese cemetery design which is suitable for China’s basic national conditions. On the one hand, the dissertation attempts to explore natural and rational way to utilize land, in order to promote the harmonious coexistence between tombs and nature, and built a cemetery with ecological benign cycle and beautiful environment, which involves in the protective barrier of city’s ecological environment. On the other hand, the thesis attaches importance to inherit Chinese traditional tomb culture, and presents burial form to let the people be satisfied to realize naturalized cemetery and humanized the nature of cemetery. This paper spreads and deepens the study on theories and methods of Chinese cemetery design under "saving land" and "comforting soul" those two clews. The relation between ancient and modern of cemetery artistic creation is deeply dug by analyzing and reorganizing the pertinent literature of Chinese mausoleum art. The thesis combines with theoretical connotation of landscape design and researches the core content, creation method, inscape, development prospect and so on, which further improvements and developments the theory of cemetery design in landscape architecture planning and design.Based on the traditional burial custom ideology which emphasizes burying corpse in deep earth and the purpose of Chinese burial custom which pursues born from nature and belong to nature after dying, the paper describes the evolution characteristics of Chinese ancient and modern mausoleum environment art, and concludes the traditional culture foundation impelling Chinese mausoleum to form and develop, and in order to make the best use of the circumstances and introduce new to further promote China’s funeral reform sustained and in-depth develop. This study implements contemporary from ancient times, and combine theoretical research and on-the-spot investigation of Chinese modern cemetery, and analysis the achievement and experience of China’s reform of funeral customs. The thesis rooted in the identified and defined traits of traditional tomb custom and based on building conservation-minded society, utilizes the essence of Chinese traditional garden theory, and analysis and summarizes feasible planning sequence and creation method from analyzing purpose, respects of sitting, conception, prospecting topography, layout, view borrowing, details creation and so on. The paper presents the innovation of conservation-oriented burial form combined with artificial mountain, which inherits and develops traditional burial culture, and builds bridge between tombs and nature. At the same time, the dissertation research to blend social beauty to natural beauty, and create moving space from the perspective of feeling and environment..The theories and methods of Chinese cemetery are applied to practice, which encourage the national characteristics of Chinese landscape architecture and extrude the important role of study theories of Chinese cemetery design.
