With an increased number of people pouring into city, China is now at the stage of rapid urbanization. The contradiction between the expansion of urban population and the scarcity of urban land, communities with high-rise buildings witness a vigorous growth. This kind of communities, where density of buildings and population is extremely high, is particularly fragile in face of disasters. As the basic disaster prevention unit, safety of community greatly influenced safety of the whole city. However, the design and construction of existing high-rise buildings rarely take disaster prevention into consideration, and most communities with high-rise buildings have potential safety hazard. In the case of disasters, casualties and economic loss are inevitable because disasters are likely to aggravated and spread in such conditions. Therefore, people pay more attention to the disaster prevention and reduction adaptation of existing high-rise communities in the city.Based on relevant theories and practices home and abroad, the author took the existing high-rise communities as object of study and did a thorough research. To begin with, the author summarized current situation and disaster prevention problems of the existing communities, analyzed behavioral psychology and emergency reaction of residents in the case of disasters, constructed disaster prevention adaptation system for existing high-rise communities, and preliminarily concluded key index of disaster prevention adaptation. Secondly, the author put forward specific and feasible strategies of disaster prevention adaptation from three different levels-macroscopic scale, middle scale, and macroscopic scale. In doing so, the author introduced the concept of space in community disaster prevention and incorporated spatial constitution factors of high-rise community. Thirdly, the author made use of FDS to analyze disaster mechanism and influencing factors in disaster prevention and relief. With case studies of existing high-rise communities and China’s national situation, the author proposed strategies of disaster prevention and reduction adaptation for high-rise housing in normal state, and explored the ecological and intelligent trend of disaster prevention and reduction technology. In the end, the paper concluded some optimizing strategies of disaster control and rescue system for existing communities. To sum up, the author made a comprehensive application of theories from different disciplines-urban planning and design, science of disaster, ecology, etc. Through the combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, the author put forward disaster features and disaster-causing mechanism of all elements of the study object. By confluence analysis of all elements, the author concluded a set of systematic disaster prevention adaptation strategies for existing high-rise communities, and with a combination of engineering technology and non-engineering technology, a complete community disaster prevention and reduction system was formed.
