The speedy urbanization of China has changed the natural hydrological conditions. With global warming, many cities in China are suffering from flood disaster, water pollution, and the shortage of water resource. The current urban infrastructures are not sufficient to deal with the above problems because storm management plans are outdated and always prioritized behind all areas of urbanization. The current stormwater management plan has lost both its regenerative and sustainable values. The way of stormwater management relying solely on engineering infrastructure needs to be transformed. This thesis presents the design methods of conservation-oriented landscape architecture based on stormwater management. It aims to explore new ways for stormwater management in green spaces within urban areas in china, which is conducive to the sustainable development of cities.This thesis will first explore the history of stormwater management, and summarize its trend of expanding to landscape architecture plan and design. In view of the present situation of China’s landscape construction. The thesis points out that the planning should follow the natural hydrological process and stormwater management needs to be included in the basic points of landscape design.The main body of this thesis attempts to develop a whole set of stormwater processing methods through green space design in urban environment. These green spaces will serve the purposes of detention and retention, transfer, aquifer recharging, purification of stormwater, which has four aspects. First, establish the scale and layout of stormwater runoff control technology based on weather condition and land condition. Second, summarize the technical points in application of stormwater runoff control design method from several aspects, like facility function, construction, design characteristics, model calculation, and plants and so on. Third, express approaches of integrating stormwater runoff control design with natural environment in the process of rainwater runoff, infiltration, transfer and retention. Forth, raise the focus points of design in different kinds of green lands, like park, school, residential area, and roads.Jinzhong Shehuo Park was selected as an example in this thesis to apply stormwater management design method based on local precipitation and land use condition.In addition, this article proposed several principles about stormwater management in conservation-oriented landscape architecture in Beijing area. Those principles include general rules, design disciplines, general requirements, design methods in local area and some quantized design requirements.This thesis wishes to change the design concept and emphasis more on rain water quality, runoff control and water resource utilization based on the research of conservation-oriented landscape architecture in order to solve stonnwater issue in urban area and contribute to the development of conservation-oriented landscape architecture.
