Research And Preliminary Practice On The Theory Of Urban Design Basing On Spatial Political Economy

Ever since the urban design came into being as a practice science, there’s noacknowledged dominant theory for it. The research of urban design remainsindividual with privatism since ever. As the theory of urban design has never beenresearched to the level of socioeconomics and Social history, it is looked as across-reference new branch of social science with no appropriate position in the socialscience system.In the process of globalization, more and more urban environmental crisis comeforth in big cities especially in global cities. It is quite needed to alleviate the urbanenvironmental crisis to keep the development of big cities. To make this happen, civilplanners need a systemic and consummate theory system of urban design to directtheir work.To solve the theory predicament and practice requirement mentioned above, thispaper makes systemic study on the history and theories of urban design and theorizean integrated science system which is basing on the spatial political economy.Firstly, this paper makes integrated study on the basal theory and history of spatialpolitical economy. Primary genres and representative scholars of spatial politicaleconomy with their theories are presented to sum up the basic research perspective.After makes certain basic research perspective certain this paper makes detailedstudy on the history of urban space which is from archaic city to post modern city.The form process and principle of each stage of city is analyzed basing on the theoryof spatial political economy. The factors which effect the configuration and formprinciple of urban space such as economy, politics culture, geography and religion arealso summarized to investigate their reciprocity.Then, this paper makes political economic study on cultural and creativeindustries, exhibition economy, sports industry and historic district as characteristictypes of modern urban design. The characters of globalization and polarization inmodern Chinese cities are also analyzed.Basing on the academic study, this paper makes practice research onXiangLuoWan CBD project using the methods of urban design which are based on the spatial political economy.Lastly, this paper sums up the theory system of spatial political economy as theguiding ideology of modern urban design and makes expectation for future spatialcharacters of cities.
