Taking the modern tie-dye industry development in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta region as the background, market practice of a enterprise as the representative model of modern tie dye, integrated innovation of process and product innovation as the main object, this study aims application and research of the theoretical system of modern tie-dye, and study causes, cultural characteristics, aesthetic style, characteristics of pattern and form, etc. Through a series of experiments, the paper proposes a method that can be used to extract tie-dye pattern characteristics, and builds a mathematical model of tie-dye image and the process.First, after textual research of historical records, for the first time the paper systematically classifies tie-dye archaeological materials and ancient literature, painting and other data, sums up the time stage of development and inheritance of tie-dye and artistic characteristics, and describes the historical background and origin of modern tie-dye. On this basis, the denotation and connotation of modern tie-dye are discussed from the angle of modern tie-dye technology characteristics, cultural characteristics, artistic features and market characteristics. The paper summarizes the integration, broad and flexible features in the process of modern tie-dye, the commercial, open compatibility and plebification in the cultural characteristics, improves the theoretical system of modern tie-dye.Next, by the combination of subjective and quantitative analysis, quantification of pattern art style is solved. In two aspects of technique and pattern visual elements, the characteristic elements of modern tie-dye are quantified. The typical feature of modern tie-dye in technique and graphic arts is reached by methods of questionnaire survey and statistical analysis, in which tie-dye process feature are dyed, dyeing, hanging dyeing, steaming, strapping, wrapping, suture and ligation, clamped grips, aggregation, once formed, repeatedly forming process; pattern features are monochrome and multicolor, middle and high purity, middle and high lightness, weak and strong contrast, the form of the line and the form of the elements of the form are moderate, simple structure, medium density, more abstract, more irregular, fashion, leisure and personality. The extraction and quantification of modern tie-dye characteristic elements are important prerequisite for enterprise’s transformation and upgrading and implementation of digital technology, which found the base of objective evaluation system of modern tie-dye products, and build scientific methods and tools of technology and digital pattern classification, storage and application of modern tie-dye in the network and the mobile internet era.Then, by inter-disciplinary research, mathematical model between tie-dye technique and image pattern is studied in the paper, based on quantification of tie-dye technology and pattern visual effects, and objective evaluation of tie-dye products. First, paper extracts average value of HSV(hue, saturation, value) tri-component of valid tie-dye area, proportion of incompletely dyed area in HSV color space, coarseness, contrast and directionality of tamura texture features of digital tie-dye image. Then, paper designs the repeated tests and analysis of variance(ANOVA) of rotation speed and concentration, to verify the relationship between the process and the characteristics of the pattern. Finally, paper uses correlation analysis to remove redundant components in quantitative features, and trains the three level BP neural network with L-M algorithm to forecast the tie-dye concentration and rotation speed by quantitative features. The experiment results show that the successful rate of forecast was high. Prediction model optimizes modern tie-dye proofing and production process, and support the enterprise rapidly response to international fashion demand.Finally, the paper explores product brand construction with the core competitiveness of modern tie-dye art, based on participating in the product design of the enterprise. Relationship between characteristics of modern tie-dye art and the oriental spirit brand culture is discussed, general principles of modern tie-dye art elements in the design are extracted from product style, product structure two aspects. The paper provides a new idea for satisfing the need of the construction of brand culture connotation and the difference of the visual style in product design.
