West Henan region is one of the important metallogenic belts of gold, molybdenum, tungsten, lead, zinc and silver in China.With the development of mineral exploration in the area, mineral prediction in bigger scale and hidden ore exploration should be carried out. Mineral prediction theories and the practices of exploration methods have been developed greatly in recent years. Mineral prediction in big scale and hidden ore exploration has been hot topics in mineral exploration field. Take West Henan region as a case story, based on modern mineral prediction theories, this paper researched mineral prediction in big scale and the methods of hidden ore exploration using new methods and techniques of exploration geophysics and geochemistry. The main results are as following:1.Through systematically summarizing the theories and methods of mineral prediction, based on the mineral prediction of west Henan area,it comes to the conclusions that :for the area with high degree of research, rich geologic data and many ore deposits, the theories and methods based on similarity and analogy can be used well in mineral prediction; but for those with lower degree of research and less deposits, the mineral prediction theories and methods based on anomaly should be used.Directed by geo-anomaly theory, the author studied the mineral prediction in Mutonggou area in Lushi county ,west Henan and the result turnt out to be well enough.2. Based on the research of geology and landform characters of Mutonggou area, new methods and techniques of exploration geophysics and geochemistry were selected. Positioning prediction on hidden ore bodies was carried out. Through systematically comparison of the results of different techniques, combination of methods for exploration in bed rock area in middle to high mountains should be EH4, high-precision magnetic survey and rock geochemical survey sampled in factures.3. Based on the research of geology and landform characters of Zhangcun area in Xiaoshan Mountain which is covered by loess, new methods and techniques of exploration geophysics and geochemistry were selected. Through systematically comparison of the results of different techniques, combination of methods for exploration in loess-covered area should be high precision magnetic survey, very low frequency electromagnetic survey, gas geochemistry suvey and MOMEO (MObile forms of MEtals in Overburden) survey.4.Six targets was delineated in Mutonggou area. Hidden ore positioning prediction was carried out in Maqugou and Shimengou targets which are both in Mutonggou area and four preferable sections for exploration were selected. While positioning prediction in Zhangcun area, five preferable sections were selected. This research provided important scientific basis for mineral exploration in west Henan region.
