Geological heritage is vital for tracing the history of the evolution of the earth which is left over from the geological history. It has non-renewability and sustainable utilization. The establishment of geoparks is an important way for the protection of geological relics in China. The Shehong National Silicified Forest Geopark in Sichuan province is well-known for its geological heritages, concentrated primary silicified wood, multiple paleontological fossils and typical stratigraphic sections. However, due to the earlier development of the geopark and the old facilities,it was unable to meet the needs of the higher level tourists. Therefore, based on the second batch of Nation-level Key Fossil Centralized Production Projects, the paper proposed the in-depth excavation of the value of the geopark. It is of great significance to further study the scientific value, the popularization of science value, the aesthetic value, and the tourism development value of wood fossils. The study on the protection and development of geological relics in this article is conducive to invigorate the new vitality of geoparks and promote the sustainable development of the local economy. It also provided research strategies for value evaluation for other Geological Heritage Reserve in the post-geopark period. This article described the natural environment, the socioeconomic profile, and the paleontological fossil in distribution, stratum and characteristics of the Shehong National Silicified Forest Geopark in Sichuan province. The scientific value, the popularization of science value, the aesthetic value, and the tourism development value of the geopark are evaluated by the comprehensive landscape assessment.Through the AVC(attraction-vitality-capacity)landscape assessment, the paper made the attraction, vitality, capacity, and playability assessment to the landscape, and proposed the preliminary improvement of the geopark.According to the stage characteristics of each stage of the tourism life cycle theory put forward by Butler, the development process of Silicified Wood National Geopark in Shehong Area of Sichuan Province is divided according to the stage characteristics, and the Gompertz Curve Judgment method is selected to verify and propose problems in geological parks. There are the conclusions of this article:(1)The attraction and vitality of the geopark are constrained by factors such as the scale of the scenic spot construction, the structure of the tourism product, and the condition of the facilities in the scenic spot. The environmental carrying capacity and the degree of acceptance to the public is high, and the overall playability of the scenic spot is at a medium level.(2)We should focus on the perspective of resource development to improve the landscape playability of geoparks. On the one hand,we must dig out the value of representative tourism resources;on the other hand,we must strengthen the development of other types of resources and increase the degree of resource integration.(3)This paper uses Butler's tourism life cycle theory to analyze the life cycle of the study area, and use Gompertz Curve Judgment method to verify that the geopark is currently in a stable stage and will enter the stagnation stage soon, that is,post-geopark period.(4)During this period, the Geopark have to face both the difficulties of aging facilities and the impact from emerging tourism destinations. It is possible to take advantage of the second batch of Nation-level Key Fossil Centralized Production Projects to adopt a series of measures to enhance its tourism value,so that the geological park would glow vitality again.
