Multi-purpose regional geochemical survey and evaluation is anunprecedented comprehensive investigation in the exploration geochemistryhistory. Over approximately the past10years, China Multi-purposeGeochemical Survey have gained vast amounts of digital resources generatedon over millions samples of surfacial material such as soils, streamsediments, waters, and rocks sampled by30provincial geological surveysand agencies. These data urgently need to be integrated and the constructedto a national spatial database useing modern computer technology, GIStechnology and databse technology. Moreover, the scientific management anduseing of these data will provede useful information to the government’s macrodecision-making, land resources planning, adjustment of agricultural structure,the ecological environment improving and monitoring.Basing on the systematic summary of the application of GIS and spatialdatabase technology in the field of geochemistry survey and the nationalgeochemical database construction status, this paper address the keytechnical issues of China national multi-purpose geochemical survey databaseconstruction. According to the composition and the characteristics of the data,on the basis of standardized research, the paper give the effective relationaldata model design, the structure and content of the national database.After theanalysis of the Multi--purpose regional geochemical survey data source anddata organization system, the national multi-purpose geochemical surveydatabase construction and integration technological process were formed. Thenational Multi--purpose regional geochemical survey database was composedby30provincial database. The quality of the database is the key problem.Thedata quality controlling measures was used during the whole process of thedata making. The paper briefly describes the main functions of the regionalgeochemical data management and analysis system and its and application inthe database management.This system achieved data management, query, visualization and other functions for multi-scale multi-purpose regionalgeochemical survey data. The national Multi-purpose geochemical databaserepresenting these analyses contains in excess of22million analyticaldeterminations analyzed using a consistent set of methods.These data willcompose a complete, national-scale Multi-purpose geochemical coverage ofthe China, and will enable construction of geochemical maps, refine estimatesof baseline concentrations of chemical elements in the sampled media, andprovide context for a wide variety of studies in the geological andenvironmental sciences, land and resource planning, agricultural restructuringand government’s macro decision-making.
