30 years of reform and opening up, international trade has made great contribution to the development of China's national economy maintained a rapid growth momentum. International trade has become an important pillar and engine of the sustained, stable and rapid development of China, and has become an important bridge and link of China's rapid economic integration into the world economic process. However, China's international trade policy had a large extent the "mercantilism" plot, everything possible to expand exports, especially in goods exports, often regardless of cost. With the scale of China's export trade expanding, a simple strategy of export-oriented defects began to appear:trade imbalance, trade frictions, over reliance on external resources, development bottlenecks, and highlighted pressure of RMB appreciation, gradually losing price advantage, a sharp decline in demand for Europe and the United States and many other issues. So now the extensive growth mode of China is not sustainable and the competitive of service trade has a dilemma, but for domestic employment pressure and the remaining causes of comparative advantage, the labor-intensive product of China's merchandise trade export always occupies an irreplaceable important role. In short term, it is difficult to change the status quo, but also the development of service trade is imperative. They should be coordinated.It is great important to be familiar with the development trend of service trade and merchandise trade, the relationship between them, the difference of their impact on China's economic development for implementation of appropriate international trade policies and optimization of China's foreign trade structure and economic development mode. Of course, it also has great significance to China's economic and social long-term, sustained and stable development. Then we need to solve three problems:1. Why does the development trend of service trade has great significance for the structural optimization of China's foreign trade and economic development mode optimization.2. What's the relationship between service trade and merchandise trade? Simple complementary relationships, or there is an alternative relationship; 3, Are there some differences between service trade and merchandise trade on the impact of China's economic development, and what aspects of specific performance?In order to clearly understand these three questions, this article is divided into seven chapters, the logic of this paper is as following:Chapter 1 focused on introduction. The article mainly focused on the background of this study, purpose and significance, research ideas and research methods, research technical road map and some major innovations.Chapter 2 focused on literature review and theory review. This article mainly focused on providing a theoretical platform for theoretical and empirical research behind. Review some previous studies of the relationship of service trade and merchandise trade, and study the explanations of traditional merchandise trade theory for service trade.Chapter 3 focused on development and characteristics of service trade and merchandise trade. This article from the actual economic performance point of view, followed by an analysis of three parts:service trade and merchandise trade of the world, service trade and merchandise trade of China and financial crisis on service trade and merchandise trade. Goal is to realize the development process, trends and characteristics for the theoretical analysis and empirical research.Chapter 4 focused on empirical analysis of service trade and merchandise trade from the viewpoint of total. This article is composed of mechanism, theoretical basis and empirical analysis. Goal is to find the total relationship of them. Firstly, summary of four models to analyze the reality of international trade; furthermore, using the "Logitech Mouse" phenomenon and the "smile curve" to describe the significance and theoretical basis; finally, using VAR models to empirical analysis and dynamic study of service trade and merchandise trade in total. The results showed that China's merchandise trade has played a good role in promoting service trade, but Service trade has played a limited role in promoting merchandise trade.Chapter 5 focused on empirical analysis of service trade and merchandise trade from the viewpoint of component. This article is composed of country-specific characteristics, mechanisms, theoretical basis and empirical Analysis. Goal is to find the component relationship of them. Firstly, high-income countries, middle-income countries and low-income countries as an example to analyze complementary mechanisms and alternative mechanisms; furthermore, using the improved two-factor, two-product model to describe the alternative possibilities; finally, using panel data to do dynamic study. The results showed that there was obvious substitute between China's service trade exports and merchandise trade exportsChapter 6 focused on empirical analysis of service trade and merchandise trade from the viewpoint of economic development. This article is composed of mechanism, model and indicator system, empirical and comparison analysis. Goal is to find the differences of them on economic development aspect. Firstly, comparative analysis of services trade and merchandise trade, optimize economic development pattern mechanisms; furthermore, building the corresponding model and index system; finally, this article analyzes the different impact of them on five aspects; physical capital, human capital, social and technological development, system of government development and environment development. The results showed that services trade is greater than merchandise trade in human capital accumulation, social technology development, government system development and natural development, but merchandise trade is only greater than service trade in physical capital development, but its development in the natural environment has a baffling effect.Chapter 7 focused on main conclusions and prospects. This chapter is mainly used for refining the main conclusions of this paper, and then, some targeted policy recommendations are suggested, as well as possible future research prospects. This paper argues that our country should continue to adhere to free trade, to promote harmonious development of service trade and merchandise trade, to increase the support of service trade to China's economic development and to promote economic development model transformation.
