The Game Theory Of The World Trading System

This dissertation aims at applying the game theory into analyzing the World Trading System, including the rules and mechanisms under the framework of the WTO, and especially focusing on the operations and approaches which ensure the cooperative game and the corresponding welfare improvement among the WTO members.This dissertation consists of four levels of different parts, the first clarifies the connotation of the World Trading System; the second defines the game features and characteristics in the World Trading System; the third expatiates on the game in the naissance, rule frameworks and operation mechanisms of the World Trading System; the fourth evidences the rationality and science of the idiographic game mechanisms in the World Trading System.The core idea of this dissertation is that cooperative game is the institutional foundation for the establishment and existence of the GATT/WTO. With this basis, the derivative points included are, WTO is an equilibrium result of cooperative game among the WTO members; The rules and mechanisms under the WTO are a series of institutional arrangements which ensure cooperative game among the WTO members; The Nash Equilibrium well matches the Pareto Optimal in the WTO multilateral games.China's WTO full membership marks the successful end of China's game with WTO contracted members. China's WTO membership not only endows China with the privileges like formulating the world trade rules, utilizing the WTO dispute settlement mechanism, but also the game rules and mechanisms in the WTO exert an additional force into reforming and innovating China's market-based economy system.Under the framework of WTO rules, China must fully implement its commitments drafted in the legal text of China's accession. This is the fundamental precondition for China to play game in the WTO. Concurrently, China should play a constructive role in the WTO multilateral games. This is the basic guideline for China and all the developing members to safeguard their national interests.
