This dissertation studies the three types of economic models of eight East Asian developing economies including ANIES-4 (Singapore, Hongkong, Korea, Taiwan), and ASEAN-4 (Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines). It is characterized by two parts in addition to introduction, peroration and references. The first part of the dissertation has four chapters for comprehensive study. And the second part of the dissertation is also four chapters, but for case studies.Chapter 1 touches upon the argumentation with regard to the single or diversified East Asian economic development model(s). After comparing the commons and differents of three types economic development models of the eight economies, it asserts that no single model was applicable in East Asian region.Chapter 2 canvas implications of economic theories on the variety of East Asian economic development models. It deems that East Asian economic growth and development was influenced by multifarious economic theories in the various period of time. However,the governments of East Asian economies have adopted the attitude of realism and pragmatism in choosing the economic theories while in practice. Therefore, mixed exercises of economic theories have been particularly apparent in formulating their economic development strategies and policies.Chapter 3 analyses the underlying causes for the building of East Asian financial crisis in the context of diversified East Asian economic models. It makes in-depth the exploration, on the comparative perspective, the different causes and origins of crisis stricken countries in the East Asia. Moreover, it introduces the views of major schools of thought with regard to the argumentation over the roots for the eruption of East Asian financial crisis.Chapter 4 exams these countries'economic reform agendas, financial and corporate restructuring since onset of the crisis in the context of diversified East Asian economic models. The methodology of comparative study is used with an aim to have a better understanding of the diversified achievements of reforms within the economies.
