In the Chinese society which is being transformed , there are many successful enterprises which are controlled by partners centering a specific entrepreneur or by a family.This paper makes a research on the personnel pattern of Chinese private enterprises through field investigation and theoretical analysis.Through theoretical analysis, this paper points out that the personnel pattern of the private enterprises results from the interaction between this network and the formal organization of the enterprise. From field investigation, the human relation network of private enterprises is, in essence, a community built upon the relation among relatives. This relation among relatives is the strong relation which controls (or dominates) the management core of enterprises. Blood relation network with the owner in the center are embedded in the formal organization of enterprises, the enterprise personnel pattern presents the resemblance to that of family.Enterprise personnel pattern resembling that of family can be explained by relation network theory. The organization of private enterprises is not based upon a weak relation network but a strong one. The fact that this powerful relation network is built and functions in the enterprises can be attributed to the following factors: (1) traditional inclination of Chinese human relations getting psychological acknowledgement and support in modern management; (2) the instrumentalist and affective utility innate in Chinese social relation network; (3) the unreliability of economical and social institutions leading to the functioning of non-formal mechanisms. Therefore, the resemblance between enterprise personnel and family personnel is an inevitable or reasonable choice made by the enterprise owner under the influence of traditional culture and society transformation.At the early stage of private enterprise development, the consanguinity network is employed as an advantageous and cheap organization resource. It fits well into and makes up the system defects of a transforming society. Due to firm trust and good operation among members of the strong relation network, private enterprises have developed rapidly. Nevertheless, with the enterprise developing, the features such as strong affective inclination in relation network, closed management core and operation all made by family members, become a bottleneck restraining the modernization of enterprise management.However, professional management of enterprises takes a long and winding...
