The labor relation is the most sensitive social economic relation affecting both economic development and political and social stability. Since the mid 1990's, labor relation studies have gradually become the heat topic with the acceleration of marketilzation of China's labor resources. However, the labor theory so far can not properly interpret the functioning of labor relation's formation and operation, and research method and tool is insufficient.Based on thorough reading of the existing theory and achievement, classification and inducement and absorbing useful achievement, the author analyzes the realistic conflicts and problems in China's labor relations by using neo-institutional economics, explores the mechanisms and models for coordinating labor relations, and asks for reconstructing harmonious labor relations by the strategy of balance of institutional supply and demand.The dissertation is developed by the following clue: The basic implications of labor relation and research method to be used in set forth in the beginning. Then the nature and characteristics of labor relations are analyzed by the institutional economics. In order to borrow lessons form the west, the labor relations in the Europe and USA, Asian countries like Japan and South Korea and such transitional economies like Russia and eastern European countries are analyzed from comparative perspective. The dissertation also uses the labor property rights as the core tool to interpret the content of rights and interests of the employees. Following the fundamental studies in basic theory, the author analyzes the macro tiers of China's labor institutional change, including the background and environment, patterns, present problems and inevitable obstacles. The dissertation also explores the creation and enhancement of the coordination mechanism of the transitional labor economies, so as to form the labor relation pattern matching the overall goal of harmonious society. Ultimately against the imbalance of present labor relation and according to the conditions and environment required by the institutional balance and the order of choice, the dissertation advocates balancing the bargaining power and rights and interests of both employer and employee, reconstructing stable and harmonious labor relation, which is an indispensable part of the harmonious society.
