Research On The Compilation Of Yiwenleiju

This dissertation uses the basic ways of Philology to make a comprehensive study on some aspects of the compilation of Yiwenleiju. The author comprehensively scrutinizes the compilation of Yiwenleiju on compiling causes, leading thoughts, compiling structure and system, and relationship between the compilation of Yiwenleiju and taxonomy, bibliography, stylistics at the same time. The author summarizes the general rules of compiling category books by studying Yiwenleiju in order to provide original achievements on founding category compilation.The preface, states the value and significance, the clue and methods of this topic, and at the same time briefly looks back the history and present situation of Yiwenleiju, summarizes the related achievements on studying the compilation of Yiwenleiju.The first chapter examines the compiling causes, compiling thoughts, compiling period, compiling members and compiling process. The compiling causes of Yiwenleiju are mainly talks about external causes, it means political and cultural causes. Governing the country without force and collecting talents are the political reasons; searching various kinds of materials and providing materials for poems are cultural reasons; the application of imperial examination is not only political but also cultural reason. As a category book, Yiwenleiju is"narrating without creating", but we can see the leading thoughts of the compiling members are developing Confucianism and Buddhism, pursuing good and beauty on its structure and contents. The scholars in the later periods have different ideas on the compiling era of Yiwenleiju because the different and the ambiguous records of the historical materials. In the author's opinion, Yiwenleuju was finished on A.D., Wude 7th, but the usual opinion which the start time is Wude 5th is just a reasonable inference because the materials are insufficient. The compiling members of Yiwenleiju are Ouyang Xun and other 5 people according to the records. But if they attended the compiling work from the beginning to end, and if there were other compiling members are uneasy to know because of lacking materials. The author analyses the six people's activities before and after they compiled the Yiwenleiju according to the materials. There aren't any detailed records about the compiling process of Yiwenleiju in the history, so the author makes a brief narration according to the implied messages in Ouyang Xun's The preface of Yiwenleiju and the generally compiling process.The second chapter discusses the compiling structure and system. The author reorganizes the arrangement of compiling structure in Yiwenleiju such as volume and section; since the denominations of structures in category books are different for a long time, the author makes new definitions of every part. There's no doubt that Yiwenleiju is a two-catalogues category book on external form. Yiwenleiju is a book which has longitude and latitude, because although it doesn't have three detailed catalogues"Xushi","Shidui","Shiwen"in ChuXueji, it has"events","writings"under each sub-catalog. The research on Yiwenleiju's category arrangement was brief and rough throughout the history, and didn't explore the deeper meanings, the author makes detailed analysis on this point. Regarding to compiling system, the author discusses the compiling method of arranging the articles under the same catalog and the compiling system of combining events and writings, at the same time, the author points out the compiling members of Yiwenleiju, intended to compile the book in the sequence of Confucian classics, history, philosophy and literature,arranged materials in the order of articles after events, but didn't execute this principle for several reasons all along. Yiwenleiju uses reference methods initially, this is one of its distinguishing features. But the statements about"reference method"in Yiwenleiju are not only rare but also not thorough. So the author makes a thorough exposition about the reference method from four aspects: the evolution of reference method, the relationship between the application of reference method and classification of Yiwenleiju, the relationship between main clauses and reference clauses of reference method and the use of reference method in Yiwenleiju.The third chapter discusses the relationship between the compilation of Yiwenleiju and taxonomy, so classification is the basic external feature of Yiwenleiju. The author makes a discussion on how the several taxonomies before Tang Dynasty influenced the Yiwenleiju's compilation, retraces the origin of classification thought of Yiwenleiju and ancient category book, and reorganizes them in the whole. Discuss and analyze the Yiwenleiju's classification thought on this foundation. Yiwenleiju which is divided into sky, earth, people, event and things five parts is according to Confucian thoughts. We can see the traditional culture concept from the division, denomination and the content's selection of Yiwenleiju, it means the classification system of Yiwenleiju, reflects Tang Dynasty paid much attention to"human", reflects"the thinking mode of deducing human things from nature", reflects Tang Dynasty paid much attention to humanities knowledge and ignored science and technology.The fourth chapter states the relationship between the compilation of Yiwenleiju and bibliography. The establishment of category and the arrangement of materials are both influenced by the development of bibliography. The compilation of category books in the Tang Dynasty was on a higher level because of the imperial examination's impetus and the needs of various kinds of category books and the thoughts and methods of bibliography get an unprecedented development. Yiwenleiju uses some bibliography methods such as category annotation and category reference to improve its application value and enrich the thesis and practice of bibliography in the Tang Dynasty. On the basic of reorganizing the different opinions about category books and index, the author demonstrates and analyses the index function of Yiwenleiju and its contemporary value. The author discusses the catalogue system which is the combination of classification and theme from some aspects such as classification and the catalog of Yiwenleiju, theme method and the materials arrangement of Yiwenleiju, classification method and theme method.The fifth chapter demonstrates the relationship between compilation of Yiwenleiju and stylistic. The styles of writing in Yiwenleiju were not classified by one person, the standards were at odds even wrong, so the styles are meticulous and unsystematic. The author analyses the number and the denominations of styles in Yiwenleiju, studies the common styles which are selected in Yiwenleiju. Also divides and analyses the whole styles into three parts which are poem, fu literature and article, examines the compiling members'stylistic view and aesthetic standard from the selection of author and works.At last states some thoughts about the research on category book compilation. Render some preliminary ideas on establishing category book compilation.
