DLP (Digital Light Processing) is drawing increasing attention in display technology domain. Compared to other techniques such as LCD, LCOS or PDP, DLP could achieve higher luminance, higher contrast, higher definition, higher reliability, and reproduce color more accurately, which makes it a popular Micro-display technique. LED shows several advantages including long life, wide color gamut, low cost, fast switch, harmless radial. Due to the increasing flux output and higher efficiency, LED is bound to replace the combination of high pressure mercury lamp and color wheel to become the new light source for Micro-display system. Since the core technology and patent is owned by TI company exclusively, the research on the DLP signal processing system with our own intelligent property and the design of high-power LED-based DLP projection system is of great significance to the development of Micro-display technology in China.This paper focuses on the research, modeling and design of the LED-based DLP projection system. We researched on the dynamic lossless signal transportation mechanism of DVI interface and designed the real-time video data interface circuit to optimize the display. According to the PWM electromechanical control mechanism, we described the system model and designed the DLP signal processing IP core based on the FPGA technology. We are the first to apply super high-power LED to DLP RPTV optical engine which dramatically reduces the cost of light source. We developed high-power LED control system, which improves the chromaticity and stability etc. We proposed the dynamic LED color gamut mapping method that resolves the problem of real-time adjustment in wide color gamut LED display system. We proposed a set of eye lens lighting system structure for LED that improves the homogeneity and flux efficiency and makes the key component domestic manufactory possible. We proposed a set of complete DLP projection system model based on high-power LED and developed the first DLP optical engine prototype based on high-power LED with low expense in our country whose entire performance analysis is given in this paper. We made amendment to the CIE measuring standard and proposed the LED device luminance measuring method using "Standard Light Source A", which contributes to the establishment of "Measuring methods for Optical properties of LED" industry standard.
