Some new changes and phenomena have occurred to Chinese media and this indicates new theoretical instructions and research methodologies are needed. This paper tries to adopt the analytic tool—identity to construct a theoretical mode based on media identity analysis and explores the problems of Chinese mass communication, media identity crisis and creativity seeking.First, this paper introduces the conception of media crisis, mainly including the historical reviews on identity and the definition of it; analyzes the possibility and feasibility of media identity research; the composition of mass communication in a general sense; analyzes the relationship between media and political, economic and technological direct substance factors; presents the current media creed systems and conceptions; different kinds of social stances and communication theories; the media-based conceptions of country and world in sense of geography and cultural space.Second, this paper deals with the concrete situations of Chinese media. Mainly, based on an understanding of history and the contemporary era, it describes the political factor, the technical factor, the media mechanism and culture; different kinds of media thinking and theoretical resources, creed system; the impacts of globalization on China.Third, this paper places an emphasis on the current situation of Chinese media identity; analyzes the causes that have led to the failure of duple identities; then it further points out the collisions and conflicts that are now afflicting Chinese media, the inner cultural crack and identity crisis brought by it; describes the symptoms of the identity crisis and its harms; finally, this paper points out the possibility and feasibility of rebuilding Chinese media identity-balance, and propose some solutions...
