In this dissertation, the radiation and scattering characteristics of plasma antenna are studied theoretically by making use of numerical methods and related engineering problems are ignored. Research work mainly includes plasma and electromagnetic wave, plasma antenna and plasma stealth technique.Firstly, simple introductions to several fundamental parameters of plasma are given and necessary derivations are provided concurrently. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is one representative numerical algorithm that can deal with inhomogeneous, anisotropic and dispersive materials. As a kind of typical anisotropic and dispersive media, plasma is applicable to the FDTD method. Therefore, the FDTD update equations for unmagnetized plasma are derived very easily in virtue of the auxiliary differential equation (ADE) scheme. Then, the FDTD equations for magnetized plasma are derived in detail by applying the piecewise linear recursive convolution (PLRC) scheme and first this scheme is extended to magnetized plasma with arbitrary magnetic declination. These equations are checked through numerical examples, respectively. In addition, the FDTD model of the thin wire for coaxial probe as well as the near to far field transformation technique is discussed briefly. Based on above platforms, effects of the loaded plasma on monopole antenna and microstrip patch one are investigated and are largely reduced by adding dielectric insulators and introducing appropriate corrections. As a new concept antenna, the plasma antenna has been principally explored in this dissertation. The basic principle of plasma antenna is discussed simply and emphasis is laid on the wave dispersion relation for an infinitely long dielectric-covered plasma column. One plasma whip antenna excited by the coaxial probe is designed and analyzed by calculating its radiation and scattering characteristics. In the transverse magnetic (TM) field wave case, the analytical Mie series formulas for both the plasma-covered conducting cylinder and plasma column with dielectric coating are derived correctly in this dissertation. The method of moments (MoM) based on the volume integral equation is employed to analyze the electromagnetic scattering from...
