Geography education is heavy demand to create earth system sciences, rejuvenatechina through science and education, maintain the sustainable development andspread the spirit of patriotism. Geography educational software plays an importantrole in geography education. However, the great majority of them have many pitfallslike solo theme, weak reusability and shortage of intelligence assistance. One general platform named GeoSmarter for geography education is presentedand analyzed further in the views of theory and practice. First of all, geographyknowledge computation is proposed as the frame theory for intelligent geographyeducational software. Qualitative reasoning integrated multi-spatial relationship is animportant topic within this theory and unsolved as yet. So S (Side Reasoning)method in terms of QSR (Qualitative Spatial Reasoning) is presented to intend tosolve this problem theoretically, which is classified as four modes. S -ⅠandS -Ⅲ are discussed emphatically in this dissertation, while the other two modes canbe transformed into solvable ways.Development of general platform for geography education is based on softwarereusable methodology and technology undoubtedly .This platform is attempted to beconstructed from smaller reusable unit (Design Patterns) to bigger one (Framework)in the various granularities. Accordingly, one proposed formal language named M-DPemphasizes particularly on the depiction of extendible characteristics for designpatterns, which is also coupled with graphic representation. Reusable softwareframework is built formally by design patterns operator defined in this form language. Finally, an analysis and design for GeoSmarter HCI framework is given in thelanguage of M-DP from practical requirements. The main work and innovations done by the author are presented as follows:① Geography educational software's origin and development are summarizedin the range from experimental stage, growing stage to developed stage. Analysisabout GIS's vital influence on educational activity implies the relationship betweenGIS and requirement of geography education. Moreover, large amounts of softwaresamples are surveyed in the views of common features and existed shortcomings.② One general platform for geography education named GeoSmarter isproposed and detailed theoretically and practically on the basis of those existedproblems.③ The initial theory of geography knowledge computation is outlinedoriginally here, which means comprehensive integration with temporal&spatialreasoning and data mining, quantitative reasoning and qualitative reasoning in theuniform intelligent methodology to process geographical information and knowledge. This theory is also illustrated with one software blueprint proposed.④ S Method in terms of QSR is presented to intend to solve qualitativereasoning integrated multi-spatial relationship theoretically. This method is classifiedas four modes. S -Ⅰand S -Ⅲ are discussed emphatically in this dissertation, while the other two modes can be transformed into solvable ways.1) S algebra system is given, which has several algebraic properties proven. This method can improve or maintain the degree of conclusions' certaintyby adding more side attributes in the case of S -Ⅲ. Two algorithms ofbuilding Composite Table and general reasoning are also listed.2) In the mode of S -Ⅰ, one similar theorem as S -Ⅲ is proven firstly. The concept of geography entity attribute's consistency is defined, whiledetecting algorithm for that is given in the dissertation. Performance ofS -ⅠReasoning algorithm proposed can result in many cases of trivialreasoning. So new methodology of S -ⅠReasoingPlus is presented toimprove the degree of conclusions' certainty sharply by means ofintegration of quantitative analysis and qualitative assumption and mappingfrom the former's results to the latter. Meanwhile, further analysis ofrelationship between set partitioning in quantitative space and qualitativespatial concept is given .The product of topology, direction and distance'spartitioning holds uniqueness and orderlessness features .This conclusionsuggests that qualitative rules of S have such characteristics mentionedconsequentially. Finally, Minimal&Maximal spatial boundary conditions ofS concept are defined. Furthermore, generating S reasoning rules andS -ⅠReasoingPlus algorithms are presented respectively.⑤ One proposed formal language named M-DP emphasizes particularly on thedepiction of extendible characteristics for design patterns, which is also coupled withgraphic representation. Reusable software unit of bigger granularity is built formallyby design patterns operator defined in this form language.⑥ An analysis and design for Geometer HCI framework is given in thelanguage of M-DP from practical requirements.
