Recent progress in Internet and mobile communication technologies has attracted much attention, which leads to an intensive research to extend data services into wireless mobile environment. Packet radio network can provide wireless communication and data distribution among mobile terminals. It plays an important role in military and commercial areas and is interpreted as an integral part of future's military communication systems. The wireless multi-hop military packet radio network is critical to meeting the requirements for wide-band, rapidly deployable and robust information systems, studies on which are more challenging. In this dissertation, some of key technologies in wireless multi-hop military packet radio network are investigated, addressing study on system model and architecture, channel-access technology and relative algorithms, the design and implement of military radio station. The major achievements are outlined as follows.(1) The special application environment of military packet radio network and the characteristic of military communication is analyzed respectively. The universal communication protocol of military packet radio network is built according to the OSI reference model and the architecture of TCP/IP, the protocol is divided into 5 layers, the function of every layer and the idea of cross-layer design is analyzed.(2) Multi-channel random multiple access system based on collision avoidance is analyzed. A new priority-supported multiple access with collision avoidance protocol is proposed, it can dynamic select some channels to transmit data parallel according to the level of priority and improved the rate of data transmission and the ratio of channel utilization. Average cycle method and probability method are used to obtain formula of system throughput and priority throughput. Simulation proved theory analysis and system performance of multi-channel and signal channel is compared.(3) Multi-channel random multiple access system based on load balancing is analyzed. If we assign channel to the mobile hosts according to the load of channel dynamically, the loss and collision of the packet can be avoided on overloads channel and the underloaded channel throughput will be improved. A new multiple access with load balancing protocol is proposed, it can dynamic select some channels to transmit data according to the level of load and improved system throughput by load balancing. Simulation proved the system performance is improved.
