This dissertation is mainly about analysis and measurement of the definition, color difference, and luminance distribution of CPT and other displays. It includes three parts: Part 1 analyses the relationship between landing-screen electron beam profile and electron gun, deflection system, and shadow mask. An electron beam distribution automatic measurement system is Developed to improve the design of CPT's related structure. Part 2 analyses beam landing shifts made by thermal deformations of a shadow mask and vibration of a new type of shadow mask-Aperture Grille. An automatic measurement system for CPT decolorization and a vibration measurement system for Aperture Grille are established. Part 3 analyses the difference of perception and discrimination to color between the human eyes and CCD system, and develops a new method based on CCD technology to evaluate the screen white-balance.This dissertation expatiates on the basic requirement, history, and actuality of the HDTV displays. In order to be the choice of HDTV, different kinds of displays develop much fast in the recent years. The dissertation introduces the development of all kinds of display, and gets the conclusion that, CPT still has the great advantage in the TV terminal field under the condition that the LCD is taking the place of CPT in the CDT field. The main research contents of CPT which includes high-luminance, high-contrast, high- definition, low-power, and complanation, have been investigated.Aberration of electronic lens made by electron gun and aberration of magnetic deflection system made by DY are comprehensively investigated, so is the shadow mask's effect on electron beam landing screen error. The conclusion can be get that, because the distribution of electron beam landing screen (distribution of luminance) is affected by many kinds of factors, it cannot get the correct function by calculation, and should be get by measurement instead.An electron beam distribution automatic measurement system which captures image by CCD is designed to make the measurement faster, more precise and more efficient. By using auto-adjusting boundary conditions and the method of three cubed spline curve fitting, the system software can recover both of the horizontal and vertical beam profile. The measurement systemcan also measure the beam landing screen error of CPT. It provides a important measurement and analysis tool to improve the performance of electron gun and DY, and improve the definition of CPT.The effect on display characteristic made by thermal deformations of the shadow mask is comprehensively investigated. By using the electron beam distribution automatic measurement system with a micro-deflective coil, a concave spot in luminance distribution can be get. It changes its position When the shadow mask changes its form. The system can automatically evaluate the decolorization of CPT by tracking the position of concave spot. The vibration of Aperture Grille will affect the display characteristic, and it is difficult to found a correct vibration analysis function because of its complicated structure. A new method for measuring the vibration of shadow mask without touch by detecting the light density with reflection type optical fiber sensor is presented. The measurement system based on the new method is designed to make the vibration measurement easier working, faster calculating, and get more precise results. It is an important measurement and analysis tool to improve the performance of shadow mask and display quality of CPT.This dissertation Analyses and measures the difference of perception and discrimination to color between the human visual system and CCD, and revises the difference by RGB tristimulus based on white point. A new method that evaluates the color aberration of screen with fractal dimension and CIELUV AE of the fields border upon each other is presented.
