The High Level Architecture (HLA), which has been accepted as an IEEE standard, is the specification for distributed interactive simulation. Flexibility is the aim of the HLA. In particular, the HLA addresses two key issues: promoting interoperability between simulations and aiding the reuse of models in different contexts. With continuously extending in scope and scale of the HLA distributed simulation applications, the interconnection of multi-federations has become a hotspot problem in the HLA. From the perspective of the HLA standard, it only enables interoperability among federates in a single federation execution, achieving reusability at federate level and component level. For multi-federations systems, the standard does not illustrate how to deal with interoperability among different federations and reusability at federation level, which increases the difficulty for researching the interconnection technology of multi-federations.This thesis discusses the problems around achieving the multi-federations interconnection and studies its key technology. We analyze the definition of the HLA interoperability, and study the hierarchical model of the HLA interoperability. The means to solve interoperability problems are proposed. The Bridge Federate is a feasible solution to achieve multi-federations interconnection. This thesis studies the structure of the Bridge Federate, and puts forward several key logical problems during achieving the Bridge Federate, as well as the solutions. We analyze the typical procedure of the Bridge Federate executing RTI Services. Base on the concept of Distributed Bridge Federate (DBF) given in the thesis, we design and implement the prototype of the Bridge Federate. This thesis discusses the definition and implementation methods of Hierarchical Federations, and brings forward the technique of automatically constructing the Hierarchical Federations Architecture (HFA). Based on the study of Time Management and Data Distributed Management in Hierarchical Federations, we give the constraint conditions, which need to be met for achieving correct temporal delivery of time-stamped messages and causal ordering of those messages. We propose the process of time advancement in Hierarchical Federations, and present the hierarchical data filtering mechanism, which can effectively decreases the network traffic. The Run Time Infrastructure (RTI) is the core of a HLA system. This thesis describes the centralized-distributed architecture of the KD-RTI, as well as its design principles. We perfect the interface services of the KD-RTI, improve the Time Management algorithm, and test the functionality and performance of the KD-RTI. We present the necessary conditions and solutions for HLA-based real-time distributed simulation, and achieve the primary effort of improving the RTI to support real-time federation execution. We also study the data collection in the HLA federation, design and implement the centralized data collection tool, which is called KD-DCT, and the distributed data collection interface. As a whole, the innovation of this thesis lies in 4 points as below:1) Based on deeply researching the HLA Federate Interface Specification, together with aiming at varied behavior mode of federates, this thesis abstracts the key problems existing in bridged federations, and presents the feasible solutions.2) This thesis puts forward the concept of Distributed Bridge Federation (DBF) for the first time. Based on synthetically analyzing components and functions of the Bridge Federate, we design and implement the centralized and distributed Bridge Federate software. This software has passed integrated test, and will be applied in a large-scale combined operations simulation system.3) This thesis brings forward automatic generation technique for the Hierarchical Federations Architecture, and implements the correlative algorithm. We study the process of time advancement in Hierarchical Federations, as well as the hierarchical data filtering technique.4) The efforts of th...
