Concatenated Convolutional Coding (CCC) is key technology in channel coding,which can provide near Shannon bound performance. Space-Time Coding (STC) combines signal processing at receiver with coding techniques appropriate to multiple transmit antenna and provides significant gain. This dissertation examines Concatenated Convolutional Coding and Space-Time Coding.In Chapter 1,a survey of CCC and STC,including their development is presented.In Chapter 2,encoder structure,decoder structure and interleaver of parallel concatenated Convolutional code(PCCC) and serially concatenated Convolutional code(SCCC) are studied. Symbol-wise SISO algorithm and bit-wise SISO algorithm are given.In Chapter 3,encoder structure and decoder structure and decoding algorithms of hybrid concatenated Convolutional code(HCCC) is studied. The performance bounds and design criteria for HCCC are developed. The result for HCCC is extended to generalized concatenated coding. Encoder,decoder structure and design criteria of generalized concatenated coding are studied. Hybrid concatenated Convolutional coded modulation (HCTCM) is studied. Performance bound and design criteria of HCTCM are given.In Chapter 4,Space-Time Trellis Coding(STTC) is studied. An exact pairwise error probability is derived for space-time codes operating over Rayleigh fading channels. Then the performance for STTC in multipath and time-dispersive fading channels is derived.In Chapter 5,Space-Time Block Coding(STBC) is studied. Decoding algorithm for any structure of STBC is derived. The decoding result discovered by Tarokh is a special case. Then the channel capacity of STBC over Rayleigh fading channels is derived. In improving the performance of STBC,Turbo code is concatenated to STBC. The structure and decoding algorithm of concatenation of Turbo-TCM and STBC are studied.In Chapter 6,the summary of all the works in the dissertation and related conclusions are presented,and the follow-up research work is discussed at last.
