TCM (Trellis Coded Modulation), which is put forward by Ungerboeck in 1982, is a modulation method combining corrected-coded with digital-modulation. According to characteristics of modulation-demodulation and corrected-coded, the technology adopts Europe-Distance by way of united measurement of code and modulation. In the same condition of information velocity, band width and power, the freedom Europe-Distance with TCM coded modulation signal is head and shoulders above uncoded modulation signal, thereby it can attain great coded gain. Trellis coding has excellent performance in many fields of communications. If the transmit signal is affected by channel state, noise and interference, etc, it is difficult for the receiver to demodulate and recovery the information of the transmitter and satisfy the low BER when the SNR is low. Therefore, it is necessary to improve coding plus in the transmitter and power efficiency in limited band. This thesis described background and application value of the project, and the development and system theory of wireless radio; the theory and main application of Trellis Coded Modulation was discussed, including the main function and algorithm design of 8PSK TCM and Viterbi coding system. The thesis also simulated coding modulation and Viterbi coding using Matlab, and tested the function on the module and system.
