Due to the requirement of storing massive data in present information society, the storage capacity of the traditional computer storage system is facing with a new challenge. In order to overcome it, a lot of new storage theories and technologies are presented. Based on the existed theory of computer storage system and applied current new computer network technology, researchers have worked out the new technologies and methods. The Network-Attached Storage, Storage Area Network, Storage Grid, etc. are the typical representatives of them. However, these new technologies and methods have their own bottle neck of the storage capability for some extent, and some of them even have the single point of failure. These new technologies and methods of storage should be made more progress. Thus, it will be a significant work if we can deal with the challenges mentioned above, and solve the existing problems for storage system, and put forward some new effective technologies and methods of the network storage.Based on the wide and systematical analysis and study on the existing storage theories, storage equipments, storage bus and network storage technologies, this thesis specially studies the storage theory and key technologies of the Intelligent Network Disk (IND) which was put forward by author's research group. The main innovations and achievements of this thesis are:1. This thesis puts forward a method to design a new kind of storage equipments which can be organized by themselves and be accessed by computer through network. We call them Intelligent Network Disks. This thesis also work out four kinds of net-connecting ways for the Intelligent Network Disks, i.e. single disk at a node, multi-disks at a node, single disk with multi-home and multi-disks with multi-home. These make the design of IND more flexible, economical and useful.2. This thesis gives a communication protocol for IND. The protocol can encapsulate all kinds of current disk orders into the frame or package of the computer network flexibly. Thus, it enables us to access disk data block directly by use of LAN or internet alternatively. It also has the vantage of more generality and flexibility than accessing SCSI (Small Computer Systems Interface) disk through the current single model of IP (Internet Protocol) or accessing IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) disk through Ethernet.3. This thesis attempts to apply the strategy of hard disk built-in CACHE to optimize the traditional disk scheduling algorithm. The result of research shows that the optimized algorithm has obvious advantages than the traditional disk scheduling algorithm while accessing hotspot area within tens times the built-in CACHE of hard disk.4. A self-organized algorithm of IND is designed. This algorithm can make all lonely IND work as a cluster or a group which can provide user a mass memory like a very large logic network disk. Based on the self-organized algorithm of IND, this thesis also puts forward a self-immunity algorithm and a backup-IND algorithm of data disaster-tolerance. These methods improve the dependability and the ability of organizing for the system of IND.5. This thesis use IND as physical support for storage grid at lower layer, and advances a new method to combine the intelligent storage computer network. That combines the IND-storage-theories with the traditional structure of computer network to generate a computer network with Intelligent Disk embed. This kind of computer network can realize an idea to integrate the storage and the network into one.The IND-storage-theories and realizing technologies will be an important network storage theories and method to solve the problem of massive data storage. The study on storage theories and design in this thesis will be a good reference or source of theory for the storage theory and computer network storage technologies of computer network in the future.
