The central government pays high attention to the application of RS in agriculture and demands the local governments to apply RS for the improvement of agricultural management. This paper explores the methods for the estimation of planting area, crop-growing and yield on different scales with RS, and puts forward the frame of the system for the crop monitoring with RS by different scales. The major results as blow:(1) The extraction of the border between the contracted fields is the foundation for the monitoring of planting area at small scale, with the analysis of the spatial features of the contracted fields and the border between the contracted fields, the experiment for the extraction of the border between the contracted fields by RS was held, and the method was put forward for mapping the contracted fields with the RS and the records of the contracting activities. Not only the method spends less, but also it is easy for the coordination with farmers.(2) For the monitoring of planting area at middle scale, such as at county level, the method for the monitoring by RS with the map of natural fields was put forward, with the map of the natural fields, the occupation of the cropping area by non-agricultural activities can be found and the raster can be simplified so as to increase the precision of raster classification. For the monitoring of planting area at small scale, such as township level, the method for the monitoring by RS with the map of contracted fields was put forward, with the map of the fields, the results of raster classification can be transferred as the feature of the contracted fields, and with the precision of the mapping of contracted fields, the precision of the monitoring of the planting area is increased greatly, and the monitoring results could be easily utilized by the agricultural spreader.(3) With the comparison of the monitoring system for crop growing at different scales and the analysis of the relationship of the monitoring system at different scales, the united monitoring system for the demand of different scale was proposed.(4) With the advantage of the spatial feature of RS, The methods was explored for adjusting the estimation of crop yields with the monitoring results of crop growing by RS.(5) With the analysis of the operating situation of the crop monitoring system in Henan province, the multi-scaled crop monitoring system was developed, the structure of the database for the multi-scaled system and the system for the application of the monitoring results at county level were designed.
