Wen-hsien T'ung-k'ao is a masterwork of profound historical significance in the aspect of ancient Chinese rules and regulations. As the longest part of it, Jing-Ji K'ao contains 76 chapters, and is written by Ma Tuanlin who's the well-known Chinese historian lived between Southern Song and Yuan Dynasty. Jing-Ji K'ao is not only an important catalogue but also a history of the collection and spread of books before Song Dynasty. Through the method of textual research, statistics, graphical analysis and comprehensive study, this paper would try to trace the family and life of Ma Tuanlin's as well as how he compiled Wen-hsien T'ung-k'ao, analyze the pattern, basis and categorization of Jing-Ji K'ao, survey that using bibliography as solution originated from the Lu Zuqian with the influence of collection in Southern Song Dynasty, summarize solution instances of Jing-Ji K'ao and analyze the Ma's comments in it, and then calculate the amount of documents and schools in Jing-Ji K'ao, evaluating the value of the book. By systematic research, we think Jing-Ji K'ao shows the appearance of the print and collection books in Song Dynasty, which plays an important role in the history of bibliography, worthy of further exploration. The introduction briefs the research of Jing-Ji K'ao in past three decades. This part establishes the research object, range and methods.Chapter One explores the family, life and works of Ma Tuanlin. This part makes clear the father-son relationship from Ma Zun, Ma Hao, Ma Mei, Ma Guang, Ma Tingluan, Ma Zhiren, to Ma Xizeng. It draws the conclusion that Ma Tuanlin's nickname was Zhu Cun not Zhu Zhou, and he was dead in 1334. This part analyzes Ma's view of literature as well as the academic preparation, time and purpose of the book, and the combination of text, literature and research in order to review the structure and editions of Wen-hsien T'ung-k'ao.Chapter Two analyzes the records of all the books in the catalogue of Jing-Ji k'ao. Every entry involves three parts including author, title and chapters, in which the author appellation has some arbitrariness, the forms of records being not identical. The statistic shows that the four categories has increased most in Jing-Ji k'ao, compared with the previous bibliography, in which 70 percent were written in Song Dynasty. Ma deliberately preserved and adjusted the classification system of former histories, and explaining each other in the records. The entries were set mainly according to Chao's Zhi and Chen's Lu, with differences in titles and chapters among the books.Chapter Three discusses the solution to Jing-Ji k'ao. It's usually considered in the academic world that the bibliography solution originated from the preface of Monk You's Chu San Zang Ji Ji in Liang Dynasty, and Ma developed it on the basis. In research, we think Monk You's Buddhist catalogue closer to biography, while Ma's bibliography originated from Lu Zuqian's serie of Da Shi Ji and influenced by the collection style at the time. Ma's solution is comprehensive and covers the aspects of author, chapter, content, version, creditability, academic origin etc. The notes in Jing-Ji k'ao explain the basis of classification, the life of the author, the creditability of the book, and comment on academic event, which shows Ma's ability of judgment and digestion with a small quantity.Chapter Four discusses the books cited in Jing-Ji k'ao. Jing-Ji k'ao contains 3937 entries, over 4300 records,5230 citations from more than 120 schools. Ma usually cited other catalogue solution to introduce the book at first, and then cited the discourse of famous people to discuss specific issues. Ma cited the Qu-Version of Chao Gongwu's Jun Zhai Du Shu Zhi, occasionally inserting the explanation of Chen-Version and editing the other versions. Though having a few defects, these citations make great contributions to compiling and editing scattering documents and to collating them, for some of the books he cited are not extant. The last part is conclusion, which sums up the value and influence of Jing-Ji k'ao in brief.
