| Meng Xiancheng (1894-1967) , the Old Generation Educationist of the People's Republic of China, is the well-know modern educationist in China. Meng's research covers the fields of literature, history and philosophy, but he contributes more to the discipline of education. Taking advantage of understanding and digesting Chinese and West, Ancient and Modern thoroughly, the composition of multi-discipline knowledge and a good master of foreign languages, Meng always combines the practical condition of China and the tradition of Chinese culture when disseminating the Western learning. Therefore, Meng constructs a world of education life with rich academic ideas and strong cultural consciousness.In the dissertation, the author takes the research methods of documents, interviews and comparison, sticks to the principles of combination of logic and history, combines the narration and theoretical analysis, narrates Meng Xiancheng's life and his education experience and examines the origin of Meng's education thoughts and development logic. On the above basis, the author narrates Meng's thoughts of education principles, public education, college education, education history from the perspective of history. Therefore, the author concludes that Meng's analysis and knowledge on Western education theories are creative and rational, and the reason is that Meng carries forward and promotes the splendid Chinese culture and tradition. By arranging systematically and commenting objectively on Meng's education thoughts, we can enrich the contents of education history and lucubrate the education theories, which are enlightening to the research of present education theories and the reform of education practice.The dissertation can be divided into three parts: the preface, the boby and the conclusion.In the preface, the author briefly introduces the project background, the present status, the researching aims, methods and train of thought.The body consists of four chapters. In Chapter One, the author introduces Meng's academy experience and the practice concerned. Starting from Meng's kinship and academic background, the author wants to trace Meng's personality and the forming of his education thoughts. In Chapter Two, the author investigates Meng's general ideas of education. Starting from Meng's involvement into the reform of "New Education" and his course to seek the essentials of education, the author narrates and analyses Meng's the development course of education principles and his system of pedagogy thought. This chapter lays the basis for the following chapters.In Chapter Three, the author investigates Meng's thought and practice of public education, analyses his spreading of theories and experiences of western adult education in the movement of Chinese public education and sums up Meng's rational knowledge and reform practices of the movement of Chinese public education.In Chapter Four, on the basis of investigation of Meng's college thought and his practice, the author analyses Meng's college education thought, which was practiced well when he chaired Eastern China Normal University.In Chapter Five, the author mainly investigates Meng's thought of education history and the relevant teaching practices, analyses his thought of education history and emphasizes Meng's contribution to the discipline of Chinese education history.In conclusion, the author summarizes Meng's contribution to the course of Chinese modern education on the basis of above chapters. |
