Paradox On Human Development: Approaches And Solutions

Human development is an old theme but always offers new arguments. The dialectical unity of human development and social economy has witnessed significant transition from natural economy to market economy. While strengthening unprecedented abundance of material base for human development, the capitalist market economy leads to what Carl Marx refers to as serious alienation of human beings. But socialist market economy, initiated by China after her reform and opening-up policy, greatly promotes economic and social development and takes human development into a new phase. It is undeniable that many negative phenomena that run counter to proper human development do exist in our society and some of them are even horrible to a certain degree. The present thesis categorizes these phenomena into human development paradox and elaborates it with an attempt to provide a new perspective for further understanding and better resolution of the paradox. The similar academic researches on this theme are few and far between in China.Under the guidance of Marxist historical materialism, the thesis firstly localizes Marxist human theory as its theoretical framework, drawing on the theories and methodologies of philosophy, economics and sociology. Then it probes into the objectivity and features of the paradox of human development under the condition of socialist market economy. Thirdly, it analyzes the causes of the existence of the paradox. And finally this study points out that the human development paradox under socialist market economy differs in nature from human alienation under capitalist market economy.For the conclusion, this thesis asserts that the paradox of human development will eventually be solved and then suggests possible solutions to the problem. The thesis also predicts that with the further development of our socialist market economy, realistic conditions will become more and more favorable and long cherished dream of perfect human development will come true.
