Personality is one of the most important issues of Marxism hominology and also a key concept in Marxism philosophy. Its significance becomes especially prominent in socialist market-oriented economy. Nowadays, the study of personality is to meet the need of reality as well as to innovate theory.The thesis consists of three chapters. Chapter One reviews the development of the ideas on personality and relevant theories, depicting personality from its implication, features and inward instruction, etc. And then Marxism outlook on personality is expounded, including the definition of personality, its origin and research methods, etc. In terms of function, this chapter makes theoretical preparations for the research to follow and is a basic one.The topic of Chapter Two is the Investigation into Personality against the background of the socialist market-oriented economy. This chapter mainly concerns the status quo of the building-up of personality sense and the underlying reasons in the condition of the socialist market-oriented economy. This chapter is divided into two sections, one of which expounds the necessity and possibility of the research on personality in present China. Section Two turns to reality, displaying the development of personality in the socialist market-oriented economy, where achievements and shortcomings coexist. And then the relevant reasons are analyzed.Chapter Three, whose topic is The Building-up of Personality of the modern Chinese, aims to search for the ways and measures used to advance all-round development of personality of human beings. Based on theoretical preparation of Chapter One and description of the assertoric state in Chapter Two, ie, 'explaining the world' with theory, Chapter Three is on the expectation and seeking of the proper state, ie, 'changing the world' .
