This dissertation discusses the symbiosis relationship between the independent college and its matrix school with the symbiosis theory through theoretical analysis and empirical studies. It presents two basic modes involved in the independent college's evolution, namely "transition reborn" and "backformation degradation". What's more, it finds the nature of the independent college's evolution: symbiosis phase translation, as well as the motivation of the independent college's evolution: the symmetry of symbiosis energy's distribution and the change of the symbiosis's total energy. Meanwhile, it suggests to "make the symbiosis identity among the independent college, matrix school and the collaborators further clear; rise the relative familiarity constantly, starting with both dominant and recessive aspects; focus on the construction of the symbiosis environment, increasing the relative openess properly; enhance the morphology scale of the independent college, starting with both tangible and intangible aspects".In chapter one, the author gives a brief description about the purposes, content, ideas, methods, theoretical basis, innovations of this dissertation, and defines the concept of the independent college. In chapter two, the dissertation makes generalization and draws conclusions based on the theory of organization evolution. Also, it introduces several related concepts and basic principles that concerned with symbiosis theory. In chapter three, great emphasis was laid on clarifying the symbiosis relationship between the independent college and its matrix school, the conditions and origins for the symbiosis relationship, combining the symbiosis theory with the reality of "independent college-matrix school" and taking the criteria of quality parameters compatibility as the entry point. It also has some empirical studies on the symbiosis relationship. In chapter four, the dissertation analyses different types of the symbiosis relationship between the independent college and its matrix school from the dimensions of organization and behavior, namely point symbiosis, intermittent symbiosis, constant symbiosis, integration symbiosis, parasitism, commensalism, symmetric mutualism and dissymmetric mutualism. It establishes twenty eight symbiosis morphologies between the independent college and its matrix school. What's more, it puts forwards two basic modes for the independent college's evolution, and has empirical studies on two typical cases. In chapter five, the dissertation analyses the conditions for the stability and change of symbiosis relationship, especially elaborating on the relationship between the independent college's evolution and symbiosis system's phase translation. It points out the basic origins and motivations of the independent college's evolution and establishes the theoretical modes. It also analyses the dissymmetric distribution factorsαfrom the aspects of relative familiarity Vab between independent college and its matrix school, relative openness u, and relative scale S of independent college's morphology separately. Meanwhile, it expounds the total factor's degree of symbiosisδfrom the aspects of damping eigenvaluesλ, of the symbiosis's interface and single factor's degree of symbiosisδsb for the matrix school, then it carries out a regress analysis towards evolution mechanism of the independent college. In chapter six, the dissertation conducts a profound analysis on the major problems that emerge in the process of the independent college's development, and proposes policy recommendations accordingly. In chapter seven, the author draws a general conclusion for the main points mentioned in the dissertation, and makes some suggestion on the further research directions of the independent college. The main innovations of this dissertation lie as follows:First, this dissertation first proposes twenty eight evolution morphologies, nine evolution paths and two basic evolution modes that the independent college may experience, as well as two basic factors that influencing the evolution. At the same time, it points out two different directions for the independent college's development, which are of positive significance for the government, matrix school and the independent college, in terms of adjusting various relationships so as to maintain a better development.Second, it treats the independent college and its matrix school as an organic ecological whole when researching on the independent college, which benefits a lot in terms of further discussions towards the problems emerging in the process of the independent college's evolution.Third, this dissertation first denominates the special and unstable commensalism which is in favor of the matrix school as "backformation", reflecting the evolution trend of the independent college on such symbiosis condition more vividly.
