The higher education of Canada was started in 1663. During the past 340 years, Canada explored and established its own characteristic way of higher education development by combining the experiences of the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the United States with Canadian practice: decentralized management was conducted in higher education and the diversities became apparent in the aspects of educational structure, educational system and educational institutions; attentions were paid to the quality and evaluation of education and the coordinating and communicating functions of non-governmental organizations were sufficiently utilized; education development and reform were put into force to meet the increasing demand of people to accept higher education. By 1990's, the higher education sector of Canada became one of the best among the most advanced countries in terms of all aspects.This dissertation aims at researching the development and reform of the higher education in Canada. It concludes the history of the development of higher education in Canada and tries to find out the experiences and laws of the development itself. The whole paper consists of four parts: Part One is the Preface that introduces the purpose, significance and methodology of the dissertation. Part Two (Chapter â… , â…¡, â…¢ and â…£) illustrates the history of the Canadian higher education before World War â…¡, the rapid development of higher education in 1950's and 1960's, the readjustments of higher education in 1970's and 1980's and the reform of higher education in 1990's. Part Three (Chapter â…¤) analyses the reasons, existed problems and drawbacks of the higher education development in Canada. Part Four (Chapter â…¥) compares the higher education of Canada with the US higher education.
