A Study Of University Idea And Administration Strategy Of Richard C. Levin

During the history of 300 years of Yale University, some prominent university presidents play a critical role and to some extent determine Yale's development direction. The brilliant achievement of Yale today is mainly the result of the university ideas given by these presidents.It has been 18 years since Levin was nominated as Yale's president in 1993.He has the longest tenure among the Ivy University presidents. Levin is not only an excellent university manager and noted economist but also a globalist, dedicating himself in developing Yale into the globalized university construction. The intuitive insight and go-aheadism of Levin made his idea more visionary while his profound economic knowledge and distinguished leading talents made his strategy more successful. This thesis conducted a research on University Idea and Administration Strategy of Levin expecting to provide enlightenment for our university in the way to first-rate university.This thesis is consisted of four parts as follows:First part:Introduction. Elaborating propose of the question, research significance, literature review, research contents and methods, definition of the related concept.Second part:The formative factor and connotation of Levin's University Idea. This part analyzes the formative process of his idea on three aspects:context, academic, background and leading character, and then introduce specific connotation of his university idea through three angles:university function, developing goal and education goal.Third part:Yale's development under Levin's leading. This part mainly conducts a research on Levin's specific management strategy guided by his university idea through three levels:Leading Yale getting out of its delima, enhancing its excellent position, Leading Yale stepping into globalized university.Fourth part:The enlightenment of Levin's management strategy at the way of our university into the first-rate university. This part summarizes both of them.
